  • Everyone's opinion on types of fries -Pls

    Hello,

I was wondering what everyone's opinion was on each kind of mock fries. I have tried to fry Jicama and really didn't care for it fried.

The three that I am interested in are:

    Okra Fries

    Turnip Fries

    Kohlrabi Fries

I just love McDy's french fries, so if you guys could give me your best opinions on each of them that would be wonderful

    Thanks in advance,

    Kelly

None of them tastes like a potato. So don't think an okra fry, turnip fry, or kohlrabi fry will taste like a fried potato from McDonalds, or else you'll be VERY disappointed.

Okra fries are crisp like potatoes. But they taste like okra and look like okra.

Turnip fries look like potato fries. But they taste like a turnip and they don't become as crisp as a potato.

Kohlrabi fries look like potato fries. But they taste like kohlrabi and they don't become as crisp as a potato.

Great, thanks Megs. I actually have never tasted any of those three. Could you give me alittle example of what their taste compare too?

      Thanks so much, Kelly

The closest thing I've found...and they certainly don't LOOK like a potato is....

        Deep fried Green beans.

Fresh raw green beans, deep fry them in vegetable oil until they turn golden, salt to taste.

Those terribly addicting, yummy tasting McDonalds FFs......boy they sure knew what they were doing when they made those huh......total addiction recipe used
I have heard and I hope this is the case that as we go along in this life-changing process -so many of those unhealthy cravings will disappear or at least be easier.....I know that must be true because some of that has occured for me already....
Good luck finding something that can take their place.....let me know if you find the perfect mock fry
            Hugs,

Turnips have a lot more water than potatoes. They have a bite like a radish when raw. When cooked, like an onion, this bite disappears, and they have a slightly sweet taste. Because of the water content, they will stay soft when cooked. I enjoy them roasted in the oven, but they resemble a soft potato.

They will also be watery if mashed like potatoes; this can be circumvented by mixing them with egg, sour cream and cheese and baking in the oven. I am going to try a recipe I have for mashed potatoes with cream cheese baked in the oven to see if the turnips turn out thicker this way.

Fried greenbeans are the BEST! Best, best, best. (I've also baked them in the oven and they're very good that way, too.) When I first tried them, I wasn't expecting them to taste like french fries, but they definitely took care of the salty, crispy, snack craving.
