  • Atkins Advantage Bars

I am confused on the total net carbs on the Atkins Chocolate Peanut Butter Bar. It says that it is okay for Phase 1 of atkins and it list the net carbs as 2 grams. When you look at the Nutrition facts on the back of the package this doesn't add up to 2 net grams of carbs. Can someone please tell me how they figured this out?

    Total Carb. 22g
    Dietary Fiber 10g
    Sugars 1g
    Sugar Alcohol 0g
    Protein 19g

According to this if you take the Total Carb and subtract the Fiber you come up with 12 net carbs. The package says 2g net carbs.

I always wondered that myself .....

In the ORIGINAL Dr.Atkins books .. he says to avoid 'FrankenFoods" all together ???? I do eat them once in a great wile .. if i have a sweet tooth . .. but i generally try to avoid them as much as possible ...

I agree....return every last one of those bars you might have in your possession, get your money back and buy some real food

"Phase I" is Atkins Company-Speak of Dr. A's findings of Induction. The bars are NOT for Induction.

The Atkins company of NOW is trying to make money off their products, and has been since Dr. A passed. I can't comment on the poor nutrition value listed on the bars, but that alone screams "PUT BACK" because it's not worth trying to figure out if they're not going to take the time to put correct and appropriate information under the listings.

      Just for FYI....future reference...
Sugar Alcohol (SAs) effect people in different ways:
      1. You either gain weight/stall from eating them
      2. You got potty IMMEDIATELY if not shortly after eating them.

Cheers on your best deicison for you!

See what I do, Is i keep a bar in my fridge and when I get a craving for something sweet, i pull it out and cut about 1" off and put the rest back, then I take my time eating that small section so I enjoy it... I only allow myself to have two such pieces a day... This way even if they are only 2g's your not getting the whole amount... and after a while that little bit is satisfying... You just need to ask yourself... What do you want more? that sweet, or to be thin... I know for me, the choice is never a hard one...

          Re: Atkins Advantage Bars

I'm kinda frustrated... and glad to find this thread. I searched before I asked the same question. My husband brought a bar home to me today. I had seen them on the induction diet on the Atkins website, so I went ahead and ate it... cause only 3 carbs YAY... then I read the back. I don't understand their marketing but if you subtract 6 grams of fiber from 18 grams of carbs... you get 12 carbs. I have been doing so well. Fortunately for me, I had an off eating day today and am way behind in my carbs so it probably won't hurt, but I thought I would bump this as a warning.

Atkins Advantage Bars don't seem to be what they appear to be!! I'm very unclear about the carb count, but am going to steer clear of them for now until I figure it out.

Oh... and too many sugar alcohols are bad for me. I remember eating the Atkins Ice Cream bars when I was on the program before and LOVED them. However, too many sugar alcohols and me - do not mix!!!!

            Re: Atkins Advantage Bars

I eat the breakfast ones each morning because I DO NOT have time to waste in the morning cooking before work. So its just easy to get up shower, dressed out the door drink water then in about 2 hours after I am up and at work, I snack on it for a while. Works great for me, I still lose weight. But I also work out on the tred climber 3 times a week. So I guess its different for everyone.

Atkins Nutritionals claims they are "appropriate for Induction" which makes absolutely NO SENSE! Read the label..it says they contain SOY, MILK & PEANUTS. Where are any of these ingredients on the acceptable foods list for Induction They also state they contain 0 grams of sugar alcohol. The Chocolate Peanut Butter bar starts out with 22 total carbs...it contains 10 grams of fiber...this brings the total net carbs to 12...HOWEVER, the label states they are 2 net carbs Confused yet?? Glycerin is deducted and guess what glycerin is....Yup, its a SUGAR ALCOHOL!!! Save your almost $2 per bar and make yourself some tuna salad or a hard boiled egg....You'll be happy you did!!

Digging around for the same answers so hopefully my reply bumps this up for others! The first time I did Atkins (amazingly well) these products had just come onto the market.. I referred to the book and realized the ingredients were hardly Atkins-acceptable and found the sugar alchohols caused that fabulous insta-poo reaction. I also found they stopped my weightloss.

I was browsing their website now because I wanted to double check the shakes (something somewhat Atkins-ish that is easy to eat for the first few days after my surgery) and checked out the bars.

HOW on EARTH do they do that math? I really think its all a PR campaign (if you look, many of the bars don't list the "total net" anymore and they don't push the low carb front in their descriptions online anymore.. now its high protein, high fiber, high minerals).. and I think, if Atkins supported the products in his last few days, it was for money reasons.

I'll be sticking to whole foods thanks! =)

Its very YMMV with bars, some people stall, some people lose (friend of mine lost 147lbs and ate bars and drank diet soda all the way).

I have a bar if i really have to but mainly because they taste like crud.

This is good reading. I have a ton of coupons for these bars and am glad to know not to waste my money.

I have not relied on the bars, but have them in the house for when I feel I need to have a sweet. I feel it is better to have half a bar then to have a bag of m & m's. I think they are good for emergencies, but not as a main part of the diet.

I agree with you - though I know a lot of people here say no way!
I see myself falling back on these and the shakes, too, rather than breaking down and eating carbs to keep me going through a ballet class.

I would not reccomend that you have them everyday unless you are doing maintence. But typically have 2 a week and lost weight with that. Also, be sure to check your water intake, increasing it always makes me feel better and I seem to lose when I drink more.
