  • What is YOUR Goal - pounds lost or inches?

Just curious what is your Goal -- i.e. pounds or inches. For example - for me its not the pounds its the inches. Two years ago when I lived this lifestyle I was a size 6 but at 136 pounds on 5'4" frame. No one could tell that I weighed as much as I did and were actually shocked when I told them my actual weight. I think as I got older I carry the weight in different parts on my body (boobs for sure ~ that don't necessarily go away the smaller I get).

So my goal is to fit into a size 6 & actual weight be d#mned Some of those pounds might actually be muscle and definition and I'm not going to sneeze at that.

I confess that the scale does mean something to me, even though it shouldn't.

I want to be 135 pounds but size is more important. If I fit into a 6 or 8 and weigh a bit more I am okay with that.

currently my goal is 170 lbs and then see how I feel from there. I would love to be able to be a size 8 or 10. 10 is prolly more reasonable (and I don't want to lose my booty!) for my body size and shape. Mostly I just wanna lose the belly but keep my curves

Inches. I want to be a size 4-5. I know my waist is capable of being 24", so that's what I want.

Both! Pounds and inches! Having said that, I am thinking of switching to having a size goal (UK size 12 - USA 10) and weigh once a month as I can get OBSESSED with the scales!

a couple of years ago when I weighed 132, which is now my goal. I wore a size 3-4 and a 5-6 depending on the brand. Right now I am 150 and wear a size sixe 9-10, when I am at goal my waste is TINY. I cant wait to be back there

                You rock!!

Seriously- this is one of the smartest and most healthy things I've read on this board in awhile.

I can only speak from my own personal experiences, and I know when I started I had a magical number in mind. When I was still weighing in at 180lbs and dropping into a size 12/14, I knew the goal weight didn't make sense for me anymore. I knew with the exercise I was doing, the muscle I was carrying and building, striving for a goal weight no longer made sense. It was about that time I bought a new pair of pants and it clubbed me over the head that what I weighed didn't mean squat if my body was small enough to fit into the size. If the inches said I was smaller and the scale didn't..which was right?? That's why I'm always popping off about pants not having a weight requirement, but a waist size requirement.

Re: What is YOUR Goal - pounds lost or inches?

Even though I do obsess over that number, I do have a certain look in my mind and how I will eventually look and feel will matter more to me than that number.

Right now though, I have to admit I am fixated on that number. I am trying to weigh on Sundays but I want to move it Fridays because I have school Mon - Thur and it keeps my mind busy but Fri and Sat I am studying and such and it drives me crazy that I can't weigh! I weighed this morning and was down (196. and I want to take it and start weighing on Fridays because I can't wait until Sunday (SEE! I almost spelled wait "weight!")

I hope I get over this soon and try to get more excited about measuring. I measure once a month and I really enjoy seeing those numbers go down.

I have a very clear fitness/fit goal in my mind, I assign the numbers based on where I was at previous moments in my life, but I'm really more interested in getting my waist back down to the 34/36 range.

This picture of me almost 20 years ago is my inspiration... what I weigh when I get there doesn't mean much to me:

I want to be back to my size 2/4 - but I don't remember my inches then. I do remember I was about 116 lbs. So, overall, its whatever inches brings me back to my old self -- which brings the lesser pounds along with it.

Re: What is YOUR Goal - pounds lost or inches?

As I get closer to goal, it gets progressively harder trying to put a number on things.

When I first began Atkins at 265 pounds, being in "Onederland" seemed light years away, and I set my goal at 190, thinking that a size 14 was "good enough" for me. My body shape changed, the pounds dropped, and I lowered my goal to 180. After some time, I lowered my goal again to 170. A couple more months passed and I lowered it to 160, which is where it's set now.

But I'm not sure if I'll make it to 160. Perhaps I could pass right by it into the 150s? It's so hard to predict what weight I will be in the mental projection of my "GOAL".

I think I would like to be solidly in a size 8. I had thought at one point I would shoot for a size 6, but I think with my frame, muscle mass, and height that a size 6 would be too small. I'm currently 171 pounds, and between size 8 and size 10. While I still have my goal weight listed as 160, my true goal will be whatever weight allows me to fit into size 8 clothing in most brands.

Re: What is YOUR Goal - pounds lost or inches?

i have a goal weight but its basically because i wanna look how i looked when i was at that weight.
in the beginning i was hoping to fit into a size 40 (10 in US) jeans again and figured i'd be at goal then...well i fit into these jeans now and am still not thaaat close to goal.

i had set measurement goals as well but having no clue what measurements i had when i liked how i looked...that isnt really working.
in some parts i've passed these goals or am close but it doesnt look the way i had hoped it would lol.

i think if my annoying belly is gone or a loooot less visible, i might already be happy enough
Date to reach goal: I don't care, as long as it happens :P

Inches are more important to me than pounds. Although I do have "pounds" milestones that I want to reach, it is more important to me to reach a size 10 or 12...when I started I was wearing almost a size 30...I could fit a 28 but they were starting to get a little snug in the waist...I am now in a size 20/22
