  • Breyers carb control ice cream

I purchased some of the breyers carb control ice cream. It is labeled that it is 4 grams of net carbs.. i ate what I thought was within my carb count a few days ago and woke up feeling like my sugar was out of wack. I read the nutritional label tonight and I can't figure out how they got 4 grams net carbs.. On the one I tried.. it had 14 carbs and 4 fiber per 1/2 cup.. sooo that would mean 10 carbs per 1/2 cup! WHICH explains why I felt so crappy after eating it. I am so ticked right now I could just spit nails. Any idea what they are basing their carb count on?

I don't have any here because I will EAT it. God, I love that Rocky Road.

Check the sugar alcohols. They subtract that out, too, to get the net carbs.

Plus, serving size is like 1/2 cup. I've never eaten a 1/2 cup of ice cream in my life. But I do love this stuff. I ate a lot of it when I was maintaining...

when my weight is where I want it, I eat an awful lot of that Rocky Road. Especially when Winn Dixie has Breyers buy one get one free.

I wouldn't go near it with YOUR spoon right now.

Trisan, are you on Induction? The ice cream is off limits if you are. The sugar alcohols will not affect ketosis but the body burns those before burning any stored fat so it will slow down your losses. It also feeds your sweet tooth and the artificial sweeteners stall a lot of people (I am one of them)

The first time I did Atkins it was this type of stuff that eventually steered me off course. If you can drop all sweets until your taste buds get used to not having sugary tastes all the time it is actually easier in the long run.

Sorry it made you feel so lousy.

You will do much better if you stay away from the 'franken foods'. Make some homemade icecream. I think its called 'ziplock' icecream? If you lay off the sweets, your cravings for them will go away. Bars, shakes, 'low carb' food products will do you no good in the long run. Good luck to you!
Try to get 80-100 ounces a day!

Can I ask if you honestly need them? You dont have to reply I just dont see a point to snacking because it really isnt a necessity so long as the meals are filling you up. God Bless,Joe

Re: Breyers carb control ice cream

I'm no longer on induction. I had used it as a treat this weekend when everyone else around me was scarfing down cake and ice cream. The point I was trying to make though was that the carbs on the outside of the container were deceiving and led me to believe that I was only having 4 net carbs when in fact I had 10. Artificial sweeteners thankfully do not stall me. I use them as part of my 3 a day as outlined in the book. Most of the time splenda is just nasty to me. I was surprised that they used splenda in that ice cream and it actually tasted good though. However, now someone else in the house is going to be eating it b/c 10 carbs for a 1/2 cup is just ridiculous.

I agree about the bars and such.. I also have to be carefu with heavy cream. It stalls me in a heart beat. I'll check out the ziploc ice cream though. What I REALLY want is a good low carb sugar free cheesecake. Ok.. so what I want is chili's cheesecake... legalized haha

Re: Breyers carb control ice cream

i provided a link for a cheesecake recipe that is atkins friendly. it does call for heavy whipping cream though. when i make this i top it with fresh berries(rung 4) and have even used crushed pecans(rung 3) for a crust on the bottom. it freezes well also. i have also put mine in mini muffin tins, and froze them, then once frozen i take them out of the tins and put them in containers and keep in the freezer. when i need a legal "sweet treat" i take out 1 or 2 and let it thaw a bit and eat with fresh berries.

when i make mine, i use a little less splenda than the recipe calls for, but i can't tell the difference in the taste from a regular cheesecake. last time i made it, i also used some of the mixture i had left over after making my cheesecakes and added some unsweetened cocoa and made kind of like a chocolate ice cream with it. it's been so hot here that ice cream sounded so good but i don't dare buy the bryers ice cream as i know i couldn't control my portions if i had it in the house.

I toss three eggs, 16 oz ricotta, 16 ounces cream cheese, 12 ounces sour cream, 3/4 cup splenda, 1 tsp vanilla, 1/2 stick melted butter and 1/2 cup blueberries (opt) in a bowl. Whip it.

Bake it in a parchment lined 9 inch round pan (need high sides) for 1:20 at 325 degrees. Let it sit in the warm oven one hour, then remove and cool overnight. Makes 8 generous slices. A little runny sometimes without cornstarch, but delicious.

Read the ingredients! When Breyers first put their "low carb" ice cream on the market the third ingredient was HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP.

                            So read those ingredients!!!!!!!!
