  • don't do it!!!

i hope this post can encourage others who are considering going off of induction:

I had planned to do induction for 2 weeks and see how much I lost. I went off induction today after two weeks by having a cupcake. The cupcake tasted SOOOOO good but...I felt like crap after i ate it...not mentally but physically. First I got super hyper as the sugar hit my two week sugar free system...I was shaking and sweating and talking really fast. Then a few hours later, wham...a huge sugar crash! Now I'm tired and all I want is a nap...what a way to start the weekend. So now I have to start over tomorrow and get back into induction...which means re-experiencing those fun induction headaches.

If you're thinking of going off induction and you are not close to your goal, DON'T DO IT!

Well, I almost agree. If you are close to your goal, still don't cheat!! You should be at Pre-Maint if you are close, not Induction. Move up the OWL rungs and you will have success!! Good luck to you.

    Oh, and NEVER cheat! LOL
Try to get 80-100 ounces a day!

Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right.

      Re: don't do it!!!

You should never end induction by having a cupcake! When you graduate from induction, you start the second phase called Ongoing Weight Loss or OWL. You transition into the next phase by adding 5 net carbs from the induction veggie list to see how your body reacts to more carbs of a benign nature. Then you go to rung 2 or soft cheeses.

You should never stay on induction until you are close to goal. Induction is only the beginning, not the whole shebang. You need time to find your CCLL and find out if you have food intolerances or allergies. You can only find this out by very carefully going through the rungs and that takes time. Cupcakes are not on any of the 9 rungs!

A lot of us that stayed on induction too long found that we stalled out and by adding more carbs by the rungs, weight loss picked right back up. Many lose much better by moving up the ladder.

By the time you are within 5 to 10 pounds of goal, you need to be ready for the pre-maintainance phase. That's where you start to add the really tricky stuff and you have to be ready. If you play your cards right, at the end you will only have to cut out white flour and sugar. You can learn to make Atkins friendly cupcakes by then. Actually, I make some pretty good ones that can be eaten on the nuts and seeds rung!

            Re: don't do it!!!

My post was intended to help those like me who are not perfect Atkinites....those who see this as more of a diet rather than a lifestyle (yes, yes, I know most of you SAY this is a lifestyle but let's face it, not everyone follows it for life) and are interested in meeting their goal but know at some point in time in their life they will again eat flour and/or sugar.

That being said, it was a good cupcake...too bad it made me feel lousy!

That decision is entirely up to you. That's why we have the STAC (second time around club) and those of us that not only SAY that it is a lifestyle, but really live it, are there to answer questions like, "Have I messed up my golden shot by going on and off?" Or, "After I yoyoed several times, does the diet work ever again or have I messed up my metabolism?" "Do you lose as fast the second, third, fifth time around?" "Since I have gained and lost this weight so many times, will my stretched skin ever tighten back up?"

We here at ADBB take this WOL/WOE seriously and will always encourage everyone to do it right and improve their health for the rest of their life. I lost over 100 pounds in 10 months, and I will never go back to the person I was back then. I have never enjoyed food so much and have not been this healthy since I was 30.

              I wish you the best!

                Re: don't do it!!!

Thank you for your post. I am on my twelfth day of induction and I have only recently caught myself thinking about cake....with icing. Meat is good...veggies are yummy and I feel better than I have felt in a long time, so I really can't believe that I would ever consider eating cake again...but it is hard. I saw your post and after I read it I felt so grateful for coming across it. It reminded me that a few moments of pleasure..yummy, yummy pleasure..would be a short moment and I would feel like crap afterwards, not just because I went off my diet but because the ingredients are bad for me and they are what got me to this place I am at. Next time I feel tempted I will remember how you described the "treat" you gave yourself and I think it will give me some extra strength to walk away. Thanks! Good luck getting back on track!

I wish more people would do this for health reasons and not just vanity. Cake, sugar, flour, etc.... not only make you fat, it can kill you.
