Okay, I am on day 7 of induction. I have lost 5 pounds and am happy about that. However, this morning I woke up really dizzy, shakey and feeling all those hypoglycemic symptoms that I used to when I ate my usual high sugar diet and crashed a couple of hours later. I don't know what is going on. I have been drinking lots of water, cut way back my caffeine intake. Any ideas? I thought eating breakfast would help, but so far I am still feeling the same crappy way.

I drink one cup of coffee per day
about 100 oz of water
breakfast-3 boiled eggs, 3 strips turkey bacon, water
lunch-2 chicken salad 'sandwhiches' on revolution rolls
dinner-chicken, california mashers (cauliflower), 1/2 tomato, 2 slices mozzerella cheese, basil
snack-5 olives

I'm no expert, but it looks like maybe a good portion of your carbs are at dinner. So you have those, sleep, and when you wake up your blood sugar levels have gotten really low. Maybe try to spread out the veggies.Paul

The above statement suggests that when you first started, you were not eating breakfast? I've been looking at a lot of recent posts on menu review and the one thing that seems to be most common is lack of food! Your menu looks to total about 800 calories. Turkey bacon? Please. I propose that on National Atkins Day everyone on this site commit to eating no less than 2000 calories of legal, low carb food. If we can't pull that off by August, then perhaps an eating challenge is needed on this site. We need to stop thinking like low cal dieters and start feeding our bods...

Hi Eric, I did eat breakfast before--but before I began Atkins, I ate cereal, fruit, yogurt, or toast--stuff like that. But if I didn't keep up the carbs before, I would go into this hypoglycemia deal and that is the same thing that happened today. Now, I know what you mean--I just figured that eating breakfast this morning after waking up and feeling so crappy that maybe the shakiness would be gone--but it took quite a while to dissipate.
I thought I was eating enough--but maybe you are right and I am not. As for the turkey bacon--I eat that because the regular stuff gives me such a stomach ache. Do you have any other suggestions?sigpicKaren

your menu looks ok. it's looks like you may not be getting enough fat in your diet though, especially if that's a basic menu you follow everyday. to be truly honest, it almost looks like a daily menu for someone on a low fat diet. try adding some different meats to your diet, like maybe a big juicy steak with some butter on it. make a taco meat using ground beef and spices like cumin, chili powder, garlic and cayenne pepper(if you like it spicy) even add some onion while browning the beef. then spoon it over some lettuce and top it with things like tomatoes, onions, cheese, ....etc whatever you like on your tacos. that's one of my favorite dishes to make.
if you cook up chicken, try to leave the skin on it, that will help with your fat intake also.
i know it's strange to have someone say you may not be getting enough fat in your diet, but that's part of what makes atkins work is your intake of fat. you should be getting a daily ratio of 65% fat, 5% carbs, & 35% protein or atleast very close to that.
just my intake, hope it helps.

Thanks to all the great advice, I do not feel like crap today! AFter reading all the responses, I decided to have 2 squares of those cream cheese/strawberry jello concoctions that I froze a few days ago. I ate them about an hour before bed and it made all the difference. I really appreciate all the help!sigpicKaren

Have you tried sausage in the morning instead? I know it can be difficult to find a premade sausage that doesn't have any sugar or carb fillers in it. The ones I find are that if you get the ground stuff from your butcher and just mention you can't have sugar or grains/flour of any kind see what they say. Jimmy Dean's Natural Original has 1 gram of sugar in 2 oz, so I am waiting on that until after induction.
Applegate Farms is a brand they sell at my Fred Meyer (Kreuger Stores) I'm not sure about their sausage, but I know that their bacon is sugar/nitrate free.

I agree on adding more fat. Also I detox something fierce and get very Hypoglycemic. I have always been that way. Even full term with my twins my blood sugars were low. Anyways, I can't eat tomatoes. They push me right over an edge and I feel like crap. I am also having problems with onions. So it could be balancing out your foods, eating more fat, detox, or a food sensitivity or all of the above!!! What fun.

Thank you Erika! I appreciate your advice too. I have upped my fat today too so hopefully I will continue to feel better tomorrow. Thank you for mentioning that you drop your blood sugar when you detox. I had no idea that this is most likely what is going on. I have dealt with hypoglycemia my whole life--this really makes sense to me. I have not had any tomatoes or onions today--maybe this will help too!
Gosh I miss fruit though! just had to add that!
