  • calculating your own percentages.

    This is how I do my daily calculations. It's really not as hard or time consuming as it looks. This might be a good alternative for someone who doesn't like fitday, or likes to see the math themselves, or simply doesn't have a computer around all the time. I know this may be obvious to some, but to others it may not be. Also, its a good way to calculate for things that you cook yourself, and brands, etc..that don't show up on fitday. For instance if you look on your nutrition label and it doesn't line up with fitdays numbers, rather than doing a custom entry you can do it this way. I used a pocket carb counter that i have at work. Also if there is a thread that already has this laid out than this one can just be ignored or deleted. But, i noticed some people were having trouble with fitday, and thought I'd offer an alternative.

    1g carb= 4 calories
    1g protein= 4 calories
    1g fat= 9 calories

    so lets say this is your breakfast

    3 large eggs scrambled
    2 slices of thick smoked cooked bacon

    1 egg= 7.45g/fat, 1.34g/carbs, 6.76g/protein

    multipled by 3= 22.35g/fat, 4.02g/carbs, 27.04g/protein

    1 bacon= 5.91g/fat, 0/carbs, 3.65g/protein

    multiplied by 2= 11.82g/fat, 0/carbs, 7.3g/protein

    add them together= 34.17g/fat, 4.02g/carbs, 34.34g/protein

    then you multiply these totals by their calorie equivalents

    fat= 34.17 x 9= 307.53
    carbs= 4.02 x 4= 16.08
    protein= 34.34 x 4= 137.36

    add these calories together= 307.53+16.08+137.36= 460.97

    this is your total calories from protein/fat/carbs that you consumed for breakfast.

    here comes the percentages.

    307.53/460.97x100= 66.7% fat
    16.08/460.97x100= 3.48% carbs
    137.36/460.97x100= 29.8% protein

    Work those numbers baby!

    Math has always been my favorite subject, but I think I'll stick with fitday.
