  • Please help! I have failed.

Hi there everyone. I stared the Atkins Plan way back in April i think it was!
I did really well losing around 9 pounds at end of induction, couldnt really get motivation move onto OWL;counting the carbs was problem, single mother working etc.
My my real problem was;SUGAR CRAVINGS,wanting Sweet things that got me.
I would eat them fro a few days, try get back into ketosis, and it is a vicious cycle!

What i need to do is get back on the plan, get through Induction which i find easiest, its the OWL stage and i was scared if i put weight on at this stage.

Can anyone advise me what to do and how to manage Sugar Cravings as this was my downfall!

Any advise would be very much appreciated, i have found this the only plan that works for me if i can get round the Sugar Cravings, which is probably why i am on this plan lol

    Thank you all so much.
    Danielle xx

Welcome back Danielle! Kudos to you for coming back to tame those sugar cravings and take control of your eating.

The best way to beat the sugar cravings is to cut out any sweetness in your diet. Very hard the first few days, but well worth it in the long run. When cravings hit, have a high fat snack. Always keep something with you when you're out and about, as being prepared is essential. Those pesky cravings can hit any time.

Also, try to focus on the wonderful foods you can eat on Atkins, rather than those you should avoid.

Hang in there! You can do it - we'll help.

Hi Danni28, welcome back. This is going to work for you this time. You know how to do induction so you are way ahead of the game. When your thru with induction, move on up to owl and when those sweet tooth meanies come have some berries. Find some sugar free coolwhip and put a dollop on it. Eventually you will whip that sweet tooth. Try diet rite cola in many flavors when the meanies attack. Also dried fruit can help, read the book to see the allowed fruits and amounts. This has really helped me, hope it helps you

L-Glutamine is a suppliment that has really helped me. I take it whenever I crave something sweet. It really helps.

Re: Please help! I have failed.

welcome back. from someone who WAS a true sweet toother, i can totally relate to how you feel. you just have to tell yourself that all those sweets are really not worth how they effect your body and life. i know when those craving hit that everyone says not to feed them, and i totally agree for the most part. however with that being said, IMHO, i also know that sometimes feeding them with some sort of legal food that has a small amount of sweetness is better than the alternative of going off plan and eating high carb junk.

the above links are for some recipes that helped me get through induction and are totally legal.

          mock danish
Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes
          jicama apples
Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes

also, during my first week of OWL, i added pumpkin into my diet, and used a tsp of splenda, some cinnamon and nutmeg for a great little breakfast. you could even add some cream cheese to it to make a pudding. pumpkin is perfectly legal veggie to have on induction, however i never thought of using it until i reached OWL.

all that being said, i don't suggest using these recipes as a part of an everyday menu item. the purpose of induction is to free yourself from being so dependant from all the sugars one has been so dependant upon for so long.

there's no real reason to be afraid of OWL. especially since the first rung is only adding another 5 grams of net carbs from the veggies you were already eating during induction. there no real rule of thumb as far as how long you stay at each rung, so if you feel like you need to stay at rung 1 for awhile there's no real reason you can't stay until you are ready for the next one. just remember that in order for you to have continued success, you should make your way up the rungs in order to learn how different foods affect you.

there is a recipe that i would also suggest, but you should probably wait to get to the dairy rung to add it in due to the limitations of heavy cream and sour cream on induction

i hope this helps, just remember to eat these in moderation not as a staple of your daily menu

You haven't failed until you stop trying! Take the advice about cutting out all sweets, including artificial sweeteners. Eat something sour like a dill pickle--that usually works. Eat a fat treat like cream cheese stuffed celery. It's crunchy & chewey and will tame the sweet munchies. Drink extra water and go do something to get your mind off the carb monsters whispering in your ear!
Find some sugar free coolwhip and put a dollop on it.
FYI--Sugar Free Cool Whip is made with corn syrup (liquid sugar) and has more carbs than regular Cool Whip. Whip up some real (heavy or whipping) cream and have a real treat!

You can do it and we are here to help!
