  • 99 pound fat suit left me unrecognizable

    Hi Gang!
I am new to the Atkins support board and I am so excited to have found such a great support site. I started my Induction phase on 7/28/2008. I have lost 5 pounds in 5 days!

Last month at my daughters High School graduation I saw an old freind of mine that I had not seen in 7 or 8 years. He looked right at me and looked away and kept walking. A normal reaction from him would have been a huge hug and excitement over seeing me. Confused I turned to call out to him but realized he didnt recognize me because of my weight gain of nearly a hundred pounds. I bit my toungue and instantly felt ashamed. This 99 pound fat suit I wear and carry with me daily has robbed me of my joy. If anyone asked me to wear this weight and carry it every day I would have said, "you are one crazy nut!" but here I am doing it.

I find this diet so easy! The only thing is trying to find variety is difficult. I have basically eaten chicken, eggs, broccoli, spinach, buffalo wings with blue cheese dressing, Tuna, and today I am going to cook a steak for dinner. I dont like fish. I allow myself a snack of pepperoni and cheese when I want something to tide me over if I am hungry. I also have given up drinking a glass of wine in the evening. I now drink a hot cup of chamomile decaf tea. It is the perfect treat before bed and I sleep like a baby! I am drinking water more than diet soda, but I really love my coffee in the morning. Is not giving up caffeine really that big of a deal if I dont have the cravings for carbs?

First of all welcome to the forum..I think you are eating all of the right things....I do not like fish or seafood so I too find it difficult at times to have a variety...but losing the weight is worth it!
Best of luck to you on your journey..I look forward to hearing all about your progress

Some people have no problems with diet sodas, but they are overwhelmingly NOT recommended. However, I guess you can stop when/if you notice a problem with your weight loss. Some people make a rule for themselves.... 2 glasses of water for every glass of Coke... something like that.

This recipe site is a great way to ensure variety: Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes - Home. Also, I highly recommend that you go move into OWL and start moving up the rungs after two weeks of induction. While it doesn't seem like you're adding much food with each step, it really does make a difference from a variety standpoint...

      Best of luck to you!

Thanks for your reply's of encouragement. Do you know what I did last night. I had a snack of Celery with a heaping tablespoon of sourcream and onion soup mix dip. After I enjoyed the snack thouroughly....it was really yummy I read the label and it had sugar in the sourcream???!!!! When did they start putting sugar in sourcream? There was 2 grams per tablespoon. Doesnt even the smallest amount of sugar yank you out of Ketosis?

It depends from person to person, but I don't think 2 g were that evil. You could use ketosticks to check...

I never heard of sugar in sour cream! What brand is that???? They will soon start adding sugar in veggies for God's sake!

Re: 99 pound fat suit left me unrecognizable

I read 2 of Dr. Atkins books before I started. I read the one for OWL as well to be sure I was well educated before I even started this diet. I have tried weight watchers 3 times, Nutrasystem and countless others. Does anyone remember the cabbage soup diet?

I will not fail this time. I have a real desire to change my life. My freind not recognizing me at my daughters graduation was only one of my many reasons. I have one even more devastating than that. I didnt know if i was going to post this part of my life but after reading all kinds of stories here I think its apropriate.

On July9th I was rear ended at a redlight. Because Of continual dizziness my doctor sent me for a CT Scan and found a congenital deformity at the base of my brain. The accident has started a bunch of symptoms I have never experienced. I am unable to drive and I have loss of balance that makes exercise difficult. I am told that my symptoms may progress until they become so debilitating that a decompression brain surgery will be required. Wow! What a time for reflection on my choices.

I remember thinking I really want to lose weight.....I will start monday. Then I declared I will do it after vacation and then days, months and years of excuses have brought me to this realization. I am fat, I dont want to be. Time is never guaranteed. I want to dance not only with my children but also my grandchildren....The time is now! I cant do anything about my brain but I can keep the rest of my body strong, and looking sexy in a little black dress for the hubby would be a great plus.
