  • My journey

    Hello there everyone.
I'm sort of new to the forum. Not at all new to weight loss. And I've read up on Atkins plenty.

So here's how my story goes:

I am born. A bouncing, chubby little cherub. I went through my childhood growth spurt. I was thin and athletic (played soccer and volleyball) from the time I was 7 until I was 11. Then I hit puberty and started to pack on the pounds. I didn't make the volleyball team in fall, which made me too out of shape for soccer in the spring. I kept gaining. I loved to eat.

High school rolled around. I wasn't just chubby anymore. I was obese, weighing in at 215 pounds (or thereabouts) from freshman year. Throughout the course of highschool, I several times endeavoured to lose the weight. But only during my senior year was I successful. I lost about 30 pounds and got down to 185 by graduation and prom. No longer obese!

But now, a little over 2 months later, and I've been alternately gaining and losing the same 3 pounds. I'm at 186 today. Counting calories and going to the gym 5-6 days a week ceases to be enough

So I will start cutting carbs as well. I will get past this block. I will lose a few more pounds before college starts. Here I go!

I hope you are not saying that you will do low fat and low carb at the same time. That is not really a good idea. If you go with Atkins it is good to go by the book and try to morph the diet into one that you can sustain for the rest of your life and easier stay at a comfortable weight.

I'm not doing low fat and low carb. But I am going to do low carb and still monitor my calorie intake. I just mean that I'm not going to eat a lot of bacon or cheese or anything like that. I plan to stick to lean proteins and vegetables as best I can.

Atkins is really a high fat diet. We eat very moderate amount of proteins.
Even if it is a high fat diet that does not mean we eat bacon and brie all day long. That is really a misconception created by the media. Most people will find that calories will drop naturally as you get satisfied by fat and ketosis set in.
