  • Rung 8 suggestions?

I'm going to give rung 8 a try this next week. I read those ideas on the stick for this rung, but wondered if you have any that you like in particular? And did you try one starchy veggie a week before introducing another---what seemed to work for you?

I'm thinking of adding adding corn because I know there's corn bread recipes, corn chips, and corn stuff that would be great to try. I'm willing to hang out in this rung for as long as I need to...probably a few weeks or more before I even think about heading over to the last rung (scary!!!).

    Thanks!

Winter squashes are a great addition for rung 8. Acorn is my favorite.

Gosh, I've forgotten about the squashes---they're about to come in season here shortly. That sounds great, thanks!

Grated carrots are great additions to salads and roasted or fried parsnips are good potato substitutes.

In addition to the winter squashes, carrots and parsnips, I also tried potatoes--sweet potatoes/yams and the regular kind.

I've tried butternut squash, sweet potato and corn. I REALLY measured these items. For a salad I just throw a ton of spinach or lettuce in, but for these starchy veggies I didn't eyeball it. I had a bit of sweet potato yesterday with butter and cinnamon. Delicious! To think I ever put sugar on one of these in the past is beyond me...they are really sweet.

You are right it is amazing how our taste buds change!

                  Re: Rung 8 suggestions?

Speaking of taste buds, mines changing a lot towards sugar, or rather the natural sugar and almost away from it. I had catelope today for the first time in a while and I thought it was too sweet. That was really an eye opener to understanding just how much our tastebuds can get "sugar coated" from the other highcarbed foods and not even really realize it (okay, maybe that's just me).

Instead of having corn or beans today, I had a 1/2 of a small, regular potato with chicken and a green salad. I can only say YUM!!! My hubby is my woe police and made sure I was okay with having that 1/2 a potato...he made me show him the book again, just to be sure.....lol.

One thing for sure about adding in these starchy veggies...I have to plan ahead and make sure I'm following through with making choices accordingly; like choosing either a corn or a potato, but not both, or peas or beans but not both. Gosh, it's a hard thing to grasp sometimes, but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it and worth it as I watch the weight continue to fall .
