  • What´s wrong with cottage cheese?

    Hi! :wave

I started doing Atkins four days ago and I absolutely love it! I weigh 255 lbs so I´ve got lots of pounds to lose and although I´ve only been doing this for four days I feel like this is the solution to my weight problem since I don´t have to be hungry all the time. However, I have a problem, I live in Sweden and dr Atkins New Diet Revolution isn´t sold here, so I haven´t been able to read it. I´ve read about the diet on the internet though so I know what it´s all about. Today I bought the illustarted Atkins new diet cookbook and I read that you can´t eat cottage cheese during the induction phase. Well, I have A LOT :yikes :yikes :yikes (I´ve stayed under 20 grams of net carbs a day though). I don´t understand why you can´t eat it since 100 grams of cottage cheese only contains 2 grams of carbs, but anyway have I messed up totally?
I´m also wondering about diet sodas, how much are you allowed to drink every day? There are no special diet sodas here, just diet Coke, Fanta free and Sprite zero, am I allowed to drink these?
*beep* I wish I had the Atkins book!!!

I tried to find the reason but I'm not having success(maybe one of the experts will tell you) I just know Dr.Atkins said no cottage cheese for Induction and since I believe he knows what he's talking about I say just stay away from it until you move out of Induction. As far as soda, some people stall because of the aspartame. It's a personal choice...remember with any sugar substitutes you are allowed two servings.

      Hi Vicki! :wave

Welcome to Atkins! It's going to change your life!

About getting the book, if you have a friend or relative in the States, Canada or the UK why not ask them to buy it for you and ship it to you?

If that's not an option please consider eBay, I'm a certified eBay instructor and long time seller on eBay and the Atkins book is sold by many sellers who ship world wide.

Here's one seller offering the book for a fixed price of $1.50 (American) and they ship internationally please copy and paste the link below:

eBay item 4532409890 (Ends Mar-09-05 06:15:03 PST) - Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution/ REVISED & LATEST UPDATE

You can also go directly to www.ebay.com and in the search engine enter the name of the book "Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution" and you'll be amazed at both the prices and packages available.

Because the book is so critical to your success don't bother bidding on auctions. eBay offers something called "buy it now" which means you can click a button and it'll be on it's way to you.

You have to register with eBay in order to buy but registration is free. As for the cottage cheese, it has sugar so please stay away from it. Stick with hard zero carb zero sugar cheeses - Posted a list of cheeses which on in this Forum today which you might want to take a look at.

Last but not least please check out the official Atkins site at www.Atkins.com There is a wealth of information you can read, download and print!

Best wishes and if you have any questions at all please don't hesitate to post or message me directly.

      You're going to do GREAT!

fresh cheese has lactose in it and Dr Atkins wants you for the first 14 days of your Atkins to avoid sugars in all types. When you finish your 14 days you can move to OWL and enjoy cottage cheese on the second rung when you get their.

Anything ending in '-ose' as an ingredient is a sugar, if I'm not mistaken. Glucose, lactose, dextrose, sucrose are all sugar forms.

which is a derivative of sugar... *lol*

But you're right! That's the only acceptable sweetner at 3 servings a day.

Until you get your hands on a copy of DANDR, check out these links as well...it never hurts to learn all you can! :yes

On the main page of this board there's a forum called FAQ's and it'll have a lot of information for you..here's the link:

There's also the FAQ's on the top header of any of the pages at this board and here's the link to that as well:

It'd be best if you ditched the soda, because, as mentioned, it contains aspartame, which Dr. Atkins said we should avoid.

We at the board here go by the guidelines as laid out in Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, version 2002 (DANDR for short), and we follow the Acceptable Foods list. Lately, www.atkins.com has been contradicting itself left and right by recommending things for Induction that are not on the List, so be forewarned if you choose to check out that site.

Thanks for all the replies, one thing is for sure, no more cottage cheese! I´ll quit with the sodas as well, although I don´t think they´ve stalled me.

I´ve ordered DANDR from eBay, thanks for the tip Peter! I can´t wait to get to read it.

I´ve checked out all the links as well, so I feel more educated by now, and hopefully will manage to make a clean induction.
