  • B**ch*ng and moaning...7th day...

Hi there. Am very new to the board, 2nd time on Atkins. Do not feel the nausea, etc that I did the first time.

I am feeling upset because I havent lost any weight. According to the keto strips I started using yesterday, I am in mild ketosis, bu the scale doesnt seem to have moved. I can't tell because the scale is a little wonky...Did I lost 2lbs? Is the scale an illusion. urplequ:

My friend had bypass surgery last week SHE'S LOST 15 LBS!! UGH!!!!!!! I'm so jealous!!!

I'm eating my meats and fats, I am eating some cheese and pork rinds as a snack, I am drinking approx. 64oz of water!! UGH!!!!!!!

    Thanks for listening :sadblinky

you forgot to eat your veggies 3 cups a day worth. DO you have DR ATKINS NEW DIET REVOLUTION third edition with a 2002 or newer printing?

Some folk need time for thier bodies to heal up their metabolisms and get going but when the healing is complete woo hoo the inches of Fat come off.

So what you doing for your exercise part of your Atkins?

    Happy lowcarbing.

      Welcome!
Post a menu for us in 'Review my Menu'...just read the sticky on how to post a menu first, and then let us know what exactly you are eating in a typical day.
64 ounces of water is the absolute bare minimum, so drinkdrinkdrink it down! :yes

And repeating 2big's question, do you have the book? Where's your vegetables? Are you exercising?

Hi Moochie, Hi 2big4mysize..Thanks for the quick responses. I have the Atkins Essentials which I have read. Have not read the DANDR yet, but I bought it last week.

As for Veggies, I usually have salads for lunch and dinner. Have not fully explored the "world of veggies" since I'm not a veggie lover.

Since I am significantly overweight, I haven't started the exercise yet. I guess tonight I'll start. The Atkins Essentials book has a recommendation of 10mins per session 2 or three times a week to start.

          Hi YewTree, :wave

Sorry to hear of your frustration - believe me I've been there too. It might help you both in the short and long run success to consider the following:

All of us have a different metabolism and our bodies lose weight and fluctuate at different rates

Ketone testing strips can be motivating but the ax swings both ways, they can also cause unnecessary frustration. Many people never test positive using the strips because their extra ketones are released through breath and skin. Also remember, ketones are a result of your body burning fat and not carbs, extra ketones are released in a few of ways, one being urine but the tests are not 100% accurate and not testing positive is not an indication that Atkins isn't working
          • * Patience is key, I know that's a lot easier said than done. But I find it helps to realize that this is a significant life change and will have profound benefits in my overall health - the weightloss which will come is like an added perk considering the benefits to your overall health and well being.

            * Scales like testing strips more often than not are a constant source of frustration - avoid them. The reading are far from accurate, the human body can fluctuate 5 pounds or more during and given 24 hour period. Do yourself a favor, put the scale away.

            * The Pork Rinds maybe be causing water retention, many brands are loaded with salt and sodium. Why not give them up for a while and see if your rate of weight loss improves.

Lastly, try not to measure your own success against anyone elses regardless of the program they're on - including bypass. Bypass is a viable option for many folks but it also carries tremendous risk factors. Even the newer Lapland procedures have tons of draw backs, especially the alarming rate at which the bands come loose and more surgery is required.

The weight loss from bypass surgery although very fast and dramatic (I have a dear friend who has lost 100 pounds in record time..and just keeps losing) but she's also required to take a mind boggling assortment of medication and supplements. Even going one ounce over her allowed intake of food makes her terribly, and I mean terribly sick. So there's no free ride or way to lose weight where there isn't some sort of trade off. For me, I love food and find great joy in cooking so from my perspective there isn't a better game in town than Atkins.

Eating all this wonderful food and still lose weight and improve every aspect of your health and well being - I would have to be nuts to give this up. A fellow posted in the other day who has lost 201 pounds in 22 months - how? he stuck to it, he knew from the get go that was a way of life, these small episodes of not losing or gaining or stalling are really, if you think about it - insignificant. It's when we make them significant that we begin to sabotage our own success.

So cheer up, the best is yet to be!

Peter :joy <---me cheering you on!

Glad to hear you've got DANDR!! Get rid of Essentials, and follow DANDR from now on. :yes

I had a very difficult time incorporating exercise into my routine, and if I can do it, anybody can! :icondance

I think starting with 10 mins or so, 3 times a week is a wonderful idea! I'm the kind of person who doesn't do well when I'm feeling 'forced' to do something, so I started small, and just kept talking to myself about how great I was feeling, and how proud I was of the fact that I was doing something, and that has worked for me.

My niece gave me great advice about walking...she said to walk 10 minutes in any direction, and when your 10 minutes is up, turn around and go home...voila, a 20 minute walk, and you can choose where you go, so it's always different.

You are going to amaze yourself with how quickly you build up stamina, too! :joy

Welcome to the board!! People here are very inspiring and will help you as long as you come here and browse around and write! The scale can be an evil liar, what you should do is measure yourself, your body won't lie, and it will tell you how many inches you lost. Its best not to weigh yourself until after 2 weeks anyways, so you don't get disappointed. Just go to Wal-Mart in the crafts department, measuring tape is 88 cents.

                Exercise

Exercise will make a big difference in your weight loss! When I started Atkins I did not exercise for the first 5 weeks. I lost minimal amounts of weight like .5 - 1 pound per week. I then started exercising and my weight loss doubled!

Welcome to ADBB! You can do it! You're received aweome advice. I want to echo the exercise sentiment. Weight REALLY comes off with exercise, even though Atkins is a FAB way of eating! Also, I've lost so fast people have accused me of having weight loss surgery (which I believe is VERY dangerous and a fad). I'm always glad to tell them I'm eating a low-carb way!

Weight loss surgery doesn't cure. It only stops a person from feeding their blood sugar. It ends up being essentially a low-carb diet. That's an expensive trip down low-carb alley with 'placebo' and danger written all over it.

                    Hi! :wave

I agree with everyone here especially getting rid of Atkins Essentials book. I consider that book "after Atkins" because it was after he died and more of the Foundation's "view" than Dr. A's. Anyway, since you are in the early stages of Induction, my first advice is stay away from the scale or you will become a slave to it. If you check every day for loss then you set yourself up for disappointment if you are losing slowly or your loss has not caught up yet.

As for exercise, I know what you mean about being very overweight. If you look at my ticker, you will see I have 171 lbs to lose. I weighed 410 lbs at my highest; but I knew that I had to exercise if I started this WOE. So I had to look for something that did not involve laying down, running, jumping, too much stress on the knees, etc. The best exercise for that is WATP--Walk Away The Pounds by Leslie Sansone. I suggest you seriously look into Leslie's videos, they are great! I realy thought I couldn't do them but they are easy yet challenging enough. I lost 40 lbs doing them (along with my on/off Atkins attemps! lol) and I tell you, my first time, I couldn't even get thru the 1 mile tape. And it was only 30 min! I was so overweight and out of shape. But each few days, I could increase it by 5 minutes till I could do the whole video. You should really look into them, I think you would like them. but be strong and keep going, READ THE BOOK! lol!

Oh, and don't be jealous of your friend; there is nothing sexy or great about a 3-4 inch scar across your stomach, only being able to eat 3 tablespoons of food, and taking loads of supplements all your life because you can't get your essential nutrients from eating right.

My sincerest thanks to everyone who responded. :hug

I do have the WATP tapes at home, so I should start them again. Again, thanks for everything.....

I was not aware that the Atkins Essentials book was not considered very good. I was suspicious of the amount of ANA foods and supplements that are pushed.

                      Thanks!
