Re: what are you planning for thanksgiving?
I'm going to eat tons of turkey with mayo. I have a hard time stopping once I start. My biggest problem will be during the preparation. When I make the stuffing, I won't be able to taste to see if it's right. Hopefully my hubby will be around to be my taster.

Re: what are you planning for thanksgiving?
Then don't go off!! Plan on making some Thanksgiving type recipes and make your own side dishes!!! If there is one holiday where avoiding cheating is EASY - it's thanksgiving! The center of it all is a nice big juicy carb-free turkey! Side dishes are a snap!
Lucky for me, I am hosting Thanksgiving this year, and there will be no carbs on my table
When it's all done I'm going to surprise my family with the shocker, "All the food you just ate, was 100% Atkins prepared." And, with everything I'm going to cook, no one will feel they missed out on anything in the feast

Re: what are you planning for thanksgiving?
If you really have to cheat, could you not just cheat for one meal and not the whole day? I had never really thought like this until I watched an item on Livin La Vida Low Carb. Also, if you cheat on thanksgiving, you can't really cheat on Christmas day - which would you prefer to have the cheat meal on?
I have already planned that I am going to have Christmas Dinner with all the trimmings (not as many carbs but not being strict and defo having some Christmas pudding) but I am not going to go off plan for the whole day or I know it will soon turn in to staying off plan until new years day! I am good at justifying these things to myself at the time! I will then not have anything off plan until possibly on my birthday in March.

Re: what are you planning for thanksgiving?
well I do thanksgiving at my moms and have no control over the menu as 5 families come.. I will just try to do my best and limit some of the carbie items.. but I am sure I will have a small piece of pumpkin pie... I just hope I can reel it back in after.. that is the plan anywaymeli

Re: what are you planning for thanksgiving?
Well my thinking is at least you are planning it and not just blowing it at the last minute. If you set your mind to it, I'm sure you can get back on track straight afterwards. I bet a lot of people go off track at thanksgiving and just don't admit it! We don't celebrate it here so I don't have to worry LOL!

Re: what are you planning for thanksgiving?
maybe I'm being a bit harsh, but if you're still in induction, you shouldn't even TOUCH that pie. look at the difficult time you had the first few days, do you want to go through that again? and realistically: it's just pie. you don't need it to live, and it's not like this is the only pie you'll ever get a chance to eat, ever.
is any pie worth a setback? and the atkins WOE just got easier for you, don't give up so soon!
I mean, of course, you know yourself best and if you KNOW you can have a tiny bit of pie and not go back for seconds or go insane with cravings the next day, then the choice is yours.the big atkins re-start on july 14/08...

Re: what are you planning for thanksgiving?
Meli, may I make a suggestion?
Why not bring some Atkins-legal foods that everyone can enjoy? With 5 families coming, I doubt anyone would be upset if you brought delicious food to share! Plsmachic posted some great recipes. Trust me, NO ONE will now it's low-carb!
Whenever I've gone to someone's house for a holiday, I've helped prepare part of the meal, or I've brought food for everyone to eat that is legal for me. In fact, my LC cookies were DEVOURED and the "real" ones sat there barely touched!

Re: what are you planning for thanksgiving?
I plan on having deep fried turney, green beans, and caulliflower potatoes with cheese and bacon. So Yummie I will find some kind of dessert I want to eat. My whole Family knows how I eat, and they have no problem with it. The host of Thanksgiving said she will have plenty for me to eat.

Re: what are you planning for thanksgiving?
Oh I agree, and unfortunately if you're PLANNING on having that pie now, I don't think any amount of our begging and pleading for you not to are going to stop you when the time comes and that pie is in front of your face.
BUT! One thing my fiance told me that sticks with me, "Why do you cheat? It's not like it's something new that you're cheating with... you already know what it's going to taste like, so what's the point? It's not worth it."
I think about that when I'm at work and I see the vanilla ice cream being drizzled with sander's fudge... And, I think to myself, 'he's right... I already know what that tastes like, so I should just go on memory and remember yeah, it's good, but it's just food. And, I don't like myself after I eat it, and it's just going to diminish my efforts.'
YOU'VE HAD PUMPKIN PIE BEFORE. Many times probably, why let yourself have some? Is it a reward? I would consider it a punishment. It's the little temptation guy on your shoulder opposite of Dr. A saying, "Yeesssss, eat that pie. It's gonna taste so good..." Don't do it. You've already had it, you know what it tastes like. It's WAY harder to come snap right back into the diet than you must think...
Don't give in
I don't want to stop seeing your name pop-up on the board for a month (or two) after Thanksgiving, only to have you roll-in after New Years (which MAY happen if you cheat) and say, "I whoops!"
It is NOT worth it.
(I say all this because I care about your success. Please don't fall. Don't give in, we all need eachother and want everyone in our little board world to do their very best.)

Re: what are you planning for thanksgiving?
julirama and plsmachick = both correct.
seriously...if you re-read your post, you're already setting yourself up for failure, saying you KNOW you're gonna have pie and you HOPE it won't throw you off track. you deserve to succeed at this! you can resist.
