It seems like everyone I work with (I'm a teacher) is on Weight Watchers. I am really confused about what to do. I have been successful on Atkins in the past but I have never done Weight Watchers. Has anyone been as successful on Weight Watchers as Atkins?

Re: Weight Watchers or Atkins
weight watchers is jusr a reduced calorie plan and I personally can't do it. I feel hungry all the time.
so, that's why I won't do it.
Any diet plan will work if you follow it, but why be hungry all the time?
I hate watching my portions like that and fat free food tastes like fat free food."I'm big boned" ...Um, nobody has bones that big....
Buffalo wings, not just for breakfast anymore.
Hey baby, how do you like bald fat guys with no money?

Re: Weight Watchers or Atkins
I was on WW at one time and gained weight while I was on it....sounds strange but that's what happened to me....I was so embarrassed ...I tried so hard but it didn't agree with me at all
plus I was always so hungry. I know some people have had success with it....it was not for me.
Atkins is the only way of eating that has given me great results, made me feel better and continued to work.
All the best to you!

Re: Weight Watchers or Atkins
I have done both, each more than once. My greatest success was on Atkins, that's why I'm back here. As others said above, I end up feeling hungry and deprived on WW - I never really feel full. However, I always did the plan with points, and the Core plan is probably closer to what we are doing here on Atkins. My feeling is that different things work better for different folks. Look at your co-workers, what are they eating? How are they saying that they feel? Ask them, then make an informed decision for yourself.Jennifer

Sarina - You are not alone...................I got sucked into doing it with people from my job. They had their own WW meetings and someone would come and weigh us in, etc..........Originally posted by Sarina D View PostI was on WW at one time and gained weight while I was on it....sounds strange but that's what happened to me....I was so embarrassed ...I tried so hard but it didn't agree with me at all

Re: Weight Watchers or Atkins
I agree, WW works for some, my good friend lost over 100 pounds on WW, but I didn't like being hungry all the time. I think you have to find the diet that works for you and not what works for someone else. Besides we don't charge here, so right there you have saved yourself big bucks.
I went to WW once, and the Leader had lost 20 pounds. OMG I can lose 20 pounds easily, its losing 120 thats hard for me.

Re: Weight Watchers or Atkins
I know people that have done WW. But I could not just eat all of the goodies and still be hungry. Plus I am bad about eating the goodies and having more.. If it is there, I would eat it. So not for me.25 years old, 5'4, start 1/8/09, start weight 163, Current weight 151.5, Goal weight 110

Re: Weight Watchers or Atkins
I like the rest who have answered. I've tried both. Forget about weight for a minute, I FEEL the best on Atkins. LOTS better. My hair and my nails are even healthier. I've known people who have lost a lot on WW and they always look pasty to me.
And Core, while being low carb, is also low fat - bad, bad combo. I simply refuse to eat fat-free anything

Re: Weight Watchers or Atkins
I think it depends person to person. If your coworkers are on it, find out from them what their eating daily, the rules of the plan etc, and compare it to this woe and if you would be happy with those food choices, does it seem doable to you etc.
My late mother lost 60 lbs on WW in the 80's and kept it off for 6+ years. she was really happy with her food choices and had no problem making it a way of life. One of my friends is currently on it and has lost and kept of 25 lbs now for a year and a half..it also works really well for her and she's turned it into a way of life.
Me i've done it 3x. Once successfully but then went back to my old habits and gained more than i'd lost \. the other 2 times was never able to stick with it. I just don't do well with low fat.
No one can tell you what will work for you specifically, or what you will be happier on...you will need to decide this for yourself.
Like Atkins, you are not forced to eat convenience foods on WW..they are available at the stores but that does not mean you have to buy them. Atkins products are full of chemicals too. Just sayin'...Me as well and have you looked at the ingredients on all the ww meals and snacks, ugh, dont even know what they are. chemicals and garbage.

Re: Weight Watchers or Atkins
I have done both and lost on both. I stuck with Atkins a lot longer, had tons more energy, and was much less stressed than when on WW. I was never hungry except first thing in the morning when I expect to be.
The one thing I did resent was all the selling of food in the meetings. Passing out samples, advocating snacking on their products, etc. Other than that, I think WW is a wonderful well thought out and medically sound program if you stick to it and eat real foods, not the junk foods.
Any way of eating comes down to just one thing. Are you willing to do or not!
If willing anything will work. Pick the one that makes you feel great and lose weight. Just make sure whatever way of eating you choose is a healthy one.

Re: Weight Watchers or Atkins
No you are not forced to eat the junk ww has available but it is allowed and everyone who has read the book(Atkins) knows that on atkins the junk they make ISNT allowed, JUST SAYING.....
BTW I know several dozen people on ww and they drink diet coke and ww muffins and candies etc. that is loaded with crap.

Re: Weight Watchers or Atkins
I have tried WW twice. I lost weight both times 35 lbs the first time (gained it back within a couple of years) and then about 10 lbs the second time (gained it back within a few months). I was sooooo one of the naysayers about Atkins when my sister did it a few years ago, but after reading the book and some other articles regarding Atkins, I was interested. Now that I've actually been on it for two weeks, I am convinced.
On WW I was constantly thinking about my next snack or meal because I was constantly hungry. I would plan out my points and try to space out my food but I would get halfway through the day and have eaten all my points for the day. It was really hard, there were some great recipes though.
We are doig Atkins here at work, but we still have a WW hold out. Atkins just isn't for her, she likes pasta, bread, etc and doesn't want to give it up. However, she is really struggling seeing and smelling all of the yummy food we are bringing to work.
Do I miss bread and the like, you bet I do, but I try to look more at what I get to eat instead of what I can't eat. Ultimately, you have to figure out which one fits better with your personality and lifestyle.

Re: Weight Watchers or Atkins
I STARVE on weight watchers. I did the point system deal where you can bank your points. They advertise that you can eat anything as long as you stay within your points range. You can, but a serving of meat is the "size of a deck of cards", dessert is a 2" square of cake, or you can have a slice of cheese and veggie pizza with a salad with non fat dressing.
Yestery I had a cheeseburger patty for breakfast, a chicken thigh and a large bowl of broccoli and peppers cooked in butter for lunch, and a big taco salad with sour cream for supper. I got hungry again around 9 and got another small bowl of taco salad. I went to bed full and woke up this morning weighing half a pound less! ATKINS FOR ME!

Re: Weight Watchers or Atkins
I have also done both. One time I switched from Atkins to WW and it was a disaster! I was hungry all the time and ended up giving up and putting all the weight back on. I can't do hungry and so am much happier on Atkins personally. I think Sadie's advice is great - ask your colleagues to tell you what they eat on a typical day and then think about which diet would suit your tastes the best. Good luck x
