  • Finally back - Flaxseed- No hunger

Hello everyone! I am back after a 3 month hiatus for personal reasons, it certainly was not because I wanted to stop dieting. I actually did good - I maintained the entire time which tells me this is definitely a final battle for me. Last time I did Atkins I lost almost 100 pounds and when I went off I gained back 40 pounds in about 3 months. So I was actually pleased to weigh in and see that.

Getting down to business. It will be 2 weeks back on Saturday. First week I lost 6 pounds. Although I thought I would lose more, I was still pleased. I am not using the scale as a crutch, but, I had a 1/2 cup of beanless chili last night and hopped on the scale this AM. No weight loss this week (yet). Part of the problem I think may be my plumbing. So I bought flaxseed to put in my salads. It looks like tiny sunflower kernels. When I read the back of the bag at home, it is stating to get the best effect I need to grind it, like in a coffee bean grinder. I don't have one of those! Is it truly necessary to grind??? If so, any suggestions???

Another problem I am having is no appetite. I know this is from ketosis, and I am drinking between 112-144 ounces of water per day with no problem, but I literally was gagging trying to eat my tuna and cheese roll up. So I swtiched to some celery and onion dip to only make it through 2 small pieces. I just don't understand the part of being put off by food. Anyone else?

Wow, if I were to have a slice of pizza it would make me very hungry for more - it is so amazing how this works!

    Thanks so much for reading!

    Firstly, welcome back, Kathi

Yes, the flax (linseed in UK) has to be ground up to allow your body to use the nutrients in it - otherwise it will just pass through like tomato seeds do!

I used the coffee grinding attachment on my food processor initially but after melting it by leaving it on an electric hob by mistake (don't ask!!) I bought a small standalone coffee grinder to use. You could use a pestle and mortar I suppose, or cruch it with a rolling pin maybe??

you're so lucky you're getting the food aversion side effect. i keep hearing people talk about that. although i'm not as hungry as i normally am, i can still eat. i could easily stuff myself as much as i used to if i let myself. i only wish i'd lose my appetite, haha.

Coffee grinders can be had for 10 dollars or so, at Target, WalMart or similar.

Many of us find our complexions improving after adding flax to our diets.

I love flax... I use it to make pancakes- flat muffin in a minute- w/ a bit of sugar free maple syrup. That is my once/pay period treat. Pancakes and bacon for supper!

BTW if you do buy the preground seeds you need to keep them in the freezer or fridge they say, or they will go rancid after a week or so. No experience of it myself as I always grind just a few recipes worth at a time from the seeds.
