  • Dumb question re: percentages

Hi there. I have a dumb question. I loaned my book to a friend who wants to check out Atkins so I can't reference it at the moment. I know in induction the percentages of fat to protein to carbs should be around 65%, 30%, 5% right? Well, as you go through OWLS, the carbs go up and the fat goes down, but the protein stays about the same. Is that right? So once you are through all the stages of OWLS and onto maintenance and lifetime, what are the approximate percentages to aim for? I know it will vary a little from person to person since everyone will have a different level of carbs they can eat without gaining, but is there a general guideline? I know high fat works when carbs are low...how much fat can you have when you are eating more carbs? I hope my question makes sense.

    Thanks.

    Re: Dumb question re: percentages

I'm not sure... was gonna post a question on percentages my self. I did a 67/30/3 percent split today. However I have noticed that when I do this split my protein on fitday registers at 200% percent of normal. I normally eat between 85-105 grams of protein/day and stay under 1400 calories. Today my calories were 1,356. Is this level of protein going to turn into glucose??? according to my metabolic rate on fitday (which I think is wrong) I need to consume 2300 calories/day to maintain my weight... if that was true I would be losing more than 1 pound/week....(but I will gladly take 1 pound per week as long as it continues to come off!!!!!)

      Re: Dumb question re: percentages

In maintenance i find my fat is usually from 40-50% protein 30 and carbs 20-30.

I can eat around 100g net a day on maintenance as long as i'm exercising regularily, around 50 - 70 if i'm not. so my fat/carbs %'s would change depending on the carb amounts.

It's likely going to be different depending on how many carbs you can handle.

Thanks. That's what I thought. The protein stays about the same, but the carbs go up and the fat goes down. Just checking! Thanks.
