  • Induction and Atkins products

I have seen a few posts on here stating that all we need to count when on atkins is NET carbs. However, even though the atkins 'Indulge' bars only contain 2 g of net carbs, they are not to be consumed during induction.
I have done 2 weeks of induction, finishing last friday. Had a social occasion that I couldnt avoid over the weekend and so ate carbs on sat and sunday, totally not worth it. Decided to do a new induction on Monday, however was consuming 1 atkins bar (Indulge) a day, but still making sure that my net carbs were under 20 g a day. I had no joy in entering ketosis for 4 days. It wasn't until I cut out the Atkins bars that i successfully entered ketosis on day 5. Never want to come out of it again hahaha. So my question is....im confused....if the 'Indulge' bars only contribute 2 g of net carbs and if im making sure that my net carbs are under 20 g, shouldnt their consumption NOT hinder entering ketosis?
I don't get why we need to 'try' to see if they work for us or not.

    Re: Induction and Atkins products

Other members have found the same thing. Thanks for writing this. I think I will make a FAQ about those Atkins products - just too many people who get tricked by those.

The problem with the bars is that some people will absorb the actual carbs in those bars - just look at the back to see what it says - probably somewhere between 15 and 20.

The Atkins company claims we do not absorb the sugar alcohol and the glycerin (sweeteners) in them but plenty of evidence seem to suggest that yes some of us do absorb those and therefore should stay away from those bars.

You seem to one of them. Good work on finding that out. Eat vegetables to get your carb up towards 20.

sugar alcohol is no good for me either. I have these tofutti ice cream bars that are staring at me in the freezer. I limit myself to one a week. I STAY AWAY from the Atkins products. It is sad that the Atkins brand name cannot get on the program.

        Re: Induction and Atkins products

The other reason the Atkins bars might affect losing is that some of the ingredients in them are not allowed on induction
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

They caused cravings in me too so I stay away from them. Shame on the Atkins company for putting profit ahead of the cause Dr. Atkins lived his life for.

Not to be too graphic....but....if bars with maltitol aren't making you poop your brains out, then you're absorbing those carbs.
