  • I am determined this time, anyone like a newbie buddy ?

    Hello everyone.

    I had tried Atkins last year and it works for me. I just wasn't able to handle the carbs once I started introducing them back into my diet.

    I got lazy too...I had lost 22lbs...feeling really good...told myself I would never let myself get that way again...and then I started to eat.

    I stopped measuring. I stopped drinking water. I stopped exercising. I started eating after supper, every night.

    Am I surprised I am here? No. I have now gained back the 22lbs so I want to get back on track before it gets any worse.

    I have been on diets since I was 11 so I know what to do it's just doing it.

    I am not going to make any more excuses. I am single and approaching 55 and I am not dead yet.

    I want to have one more kick at the can, so to speak

    I want to fit back into those beautiful clothes I have hanging in my closet.

    If anyone would like to team up so we can help each other, that would be nice. Or if anyone of the newbies has a little group formed. Not sure how this works but my problem is on these boards, finding people again. I have a nice chat then I can never find the board, or the person again..lol

      Joann -- it's nice to have another lady near my age here! Welcome back - I'm glad you got back on track before your weight really got out of hand! You've lost those 22 pounds before, and I see 3 are already gone again - so congratulations!

      There are lots of challenges you can sign up for that will help - go here for them: Challenges - Atkins Diet There is a 50+ section where we get together and post what's going no with us: 50+ Atkins - Atkins Diet. There is the Second Time Around Club: Second Time Around Club - Atkins Diet - there are just so many places to go and different forums to join or read.

          Can you tell me where I can find before and after pictures. I love looking at them.

                Hi Carole,
                thanks for the info.
                I will check it out.
                down 6lbs now....not as fast as I had hoped but 6 lbs off is better than 6lbs on.
                I haven't started the exercise yet and I know its a big part of it.
                I have been on induction now for 2 weeks...and I am trying to stick to the max 20 carbs...lol...but i want to stay on it for a couple more weeks...how long do you recommend staying on induction?

                  Hi Jo -- moving to OWL is a personal decision but I know I stayed 2 weeks longer (total of 1 month) and when I started up the rungs I didn't seem to loose anything - I read somewhere in the book (and can't find it now) that there is no need to stay on induction but if you have a lot of weight (I think he was talking 100 pounds or more) to stay....if not move on. About the same time I started onto the OWL portion I got a horrible case of the flu/virus whatever was going around, so from that point on I never really lost weight until I came back to reinduction.

                  You have lost real well so far -- add your exercise, that will really kick your weight loss in gear. Go to the challenge area and try some of them at the first of the month -- it doesn't cost a thing and keeps you accountable for getting your body moving. ALSO get your water in everyday -- AT LEAST 64 ounces - that will help with the weight loss also, you need something to help flush out all the nasties.

                    Hi Jo, I am a newbie too, with a closet full of nice clothes that I want to fit into again I have put a moratorium on clothes shopping because I need the motivation to lose weight. Either that or involuntary nudity! Good luck!

                        joanne, you read my mind! i need a buddy too to help me stay on track and stay positive. i love the idea of only weighing in once a week. then when you do the math, say 3lbs, you can say to yourself, hey, that's 12 lbs a month. not bad.

                        i'm going to need help finding my way around the site and the challenges and the lost weight meter too...lol. let me know if you learn any new tricks. here's to our last hurrah, or the first of many fabulous hurrahs in our future.

                            Hi Ya attagirl. Ok, I am good with the food. I am trying to stay as close to 20 carbs a day as I can, and I have stopped snacking at night. I am trying to drink water instead of diet pop. Haven't gotten any where near the amount I am supposed to drink yet though. I still have to start the exercise too. Baby steps...lol

                            Where are you two ladies from? I am from Brampton, its just outside of Toronto Canada.

                            Very hard to find low carb food here. I just found an online store that delivers next day. I ordered tortillas and pita pockets and (3 carbs each) and they are sooooooooo good. I ordered the ATkins bars and they are saving my life. Also the Dreamfields pasta...omg...it is awesome.....I have measured it out into little packages 2 ozs = 5 carbs and it takes so good. geez. I am licking my lips and I just finished dinner...LOL

                              Jo -- the foods you bought aren't induction legal.....put them away until you are on OWL -- they do have small amounts of carbs, but they are exactly the things you need to purge out of your diet for now. If it's not on the induction list you can't eat it.....The Rules of Induction can be found here:
