    Hi All

I have had the same problem for the last two weeks and its getting worse and more frequent (been on atkins for 6 weeks) and am now about to take myself off to the Dr's. I have pains right across the middle of my tummy usually worse just after eating and feels like i've been winded for about and hour or so and its very very painful and is getting more frequent. I need to lay on the floor and rub my stomach (which I can't do at work) and this helps but doesn't relieve the pain. If I take 2 strong painkillers the pain subsides but doesn't go feels like my intestines are in knots.

I am not constipated go every other day with no probs, am drinking plenty of water lots of veg and salads and not preg or have period pains so non of them.

The only thing different on this diet is that I am now on high fat and I use splenda instead of my usual sweetners.

    Any ideas please.

Here's my reply from the other thread. It's a good thing you created a separate one.

Did you try lowering your fat intake a little? Dr. Atkins wrote that people with gallbladder disease "may have to slowly increase the level of fat they are eating, according to their own tolerance".

Also, I'm not sure if this would help, but what about eating smaller meals more often? Did you try this?

Ally, I had gall stones and they were terrible. First suggestion, see the doctor. Barring that, go off plan for two weeks and eat NO FAT whatsoever. If your symptoms subside you probably have a bunch of stones in there and your GB may need to come out. I had mine out and have been fine since but fatty foods and chicken (don't know why) would keep me up all night with that ground glass in your stomach kind of pain.

        Re: stomach cramps - help

hi both of you thanks for your help. Went to the docs yesterday and am please to say that I don't have gall stones can't remember what she called it but everytime I eat my large intestine goes into spasams hence the pain for hours
afterwards the doctor has given me some anti spasmotic pills called colofac MR (mebeverine hydrochloride) I need to take one in the morning and one at night and she said it should settle after a few weeks. They are working which is great no more pain at the moment . My only problem is that I'am now worried they are interferring with my ketosis. I have been in very dark ketosis since day two and not come out once, but this morning after taking the tablets yesterday the kestix just about turned to the lightest colour? Any ideas? I have drunk loads this morning as well.

Also on a separate note do I have to count my two cups of decaf coffee as one carb each? I haven't been up till now but saw something about it on another thread.

Thanks again for all your support. Ally

As long as you have some color you are fine. Darker color doesn't mean better. So glad you got things checked out. Hope the pain is gone for good. Can't answer the coffee question for you, sorry.

This is going to sound crazy, but are you eating beans? Even a small chili from Wendy's used to put me in pain until I read an article about the Atkins diet + beans = something crazy with the bacteria in your intestines. I think you're supposed to take probiotics to counter the affect, but it's been awhile, so I'm not sure. Hope you feel better!
