Re: 70 days of induction today
Congrats on your success. I am on day 88 myself. It is not a problem for me to stay on induction - in fact, eating essentially the same things every day makes it easier. I'm in the 40-50 pounds lost club as well, but to be honest, at 192 currently, I'm getting a little skinny for my 6'3" frame. The introduction of daily cardio really helped get over those last 10 pounds I'd wanted to shed, and I'm slowly adding lean muscle back on as I hit the gym now 7 days a week.
In fact, I'm finding it necessary to actually increase my caloric intake a bit, particularly with lean protein and/or shakes to keep my weight up. Never thought I'd say that!

Re: 70 days of induction today
I try to walk 4 miles in an hour each day.Really amazing how my body has changed in 2 1/2 months. From tall fat guy to tall lean looking guy.Not sure if I want to get much below 200.Exercise helps with toning but I don't think it does a great deal for wt loss. The key to me is ultra low carbs kills my hunger and I eat much less.I know if I try to incorporate more carbs the hunger will come back along with all the weight.Been there, done that.

Re: 70 days of induction today
I've been on a 400-00 / day calorie diet for nearly 2 mos with an extremely rigorous exercise regimen and have lost 3 lbs. They say I am building muscle, well I dont look any different so am very discouraged. That's why I thougth I would start atkins. I worked for me years ago, but I was much younger. That is also why I am wondering about exercise. I want to do everything right so I lose lbs AND inches. Advise? What does one day of your diet consist of? Thanks

Re: 70 days of induction today
Itsmyturn: I don't think exercise is optional, you should be doing it (added: I just realized you are, great!). They say you should do something every day, but due to my schedule I'm personally only doing cardio every other day. Maybe I'll start riding my bike to work here as spring comes on though. If somebody does ultra-low calorie diet without exercise, their basal metabolic rate will surely decrease, so it will be difficult for them to shed weight like that.
tav: great job! I just want to say that all muscle is "lean". The "lean vs bulky" muscle is a myth. I've heard all the stuff about repetitions vs power lifting, etc, that is wide spread, but the fact is that muscle only comes in one type. Almost everyone benefits from modest muscle building though.
Phil: congrats! We're about twins, started about the same place and want to end about the same place. I'm 6'0" and naturally muscular, so the best I can hope for is about 24 - 25 BMI I think. Maybe I'll surprise myself when I get closer to the target weight though. 20 lbs/month is an excellent loss though, I'm not getting that rate and I'm not cheating at all. Oh well, I guess i'm resistant (or rebuilding a lot of old muscle tissue!)

Re: 70 days of induction today
I think it will. I had very little success on a ultra-low calorie diet last year, and Atkins is going much better for me now. I definitely feel better. You certainly don't have anything to lose in trying it as I can guarantee you'll get more than a 1.5 lb/month loss if you follow Atkins exactly.
Disclaimer: I wasn't exercising on the low-cal diet.

Re: 70 days of induction today
Thanks, I'm in this for the long run.The weight loss is nice but I can't get back on that binge eating merry go round again.I thank Atkins for getting the message out there. Can't help but think if he were still alive he would make changes in the maintenance plan.Way too many people get a taste of added carbs and gain most if not all back.I have found that I need to stay less than 10 gms of carbs a day to control my hunger. My favorite food has become home made peppered beef jerky made out of beef brisket and ground beef.My hot meal is rib eyes or ground beef.

Re: 70 days of induction today
No, I don't plan on moving up.My choices of foods are plenty enough for me.Beef, pork, lamb and dark poultry.I eat eggs and a bit of cheese.Occasional cumcumber, celery, spinach, turnip or collard greens.I eat three meals a day, nothing in between and rarely experience hunger.I have done Atkins before and moved up the ladder after substantial wt loss and gained it all back plus.I guess I thought I could control hunger adding carbs but I was very wrong.Very content with a very low carb woe.

Re: 70 days of induction today
Congratulations phil...your results are fantastic! Tomorrow will be my 77th day on induction. I started at 248 and this morning weighed in at 212. I am ecstatic over losing 36 lbs. in 11 weeks.
I have no plans to move up the ladder any time soon. I don't want to change a thing I've been doing!!
