  • Day 14 no weight lost

I am 45, just went on meds for menopause (fun) I weight train 3 days a week aerobics 3-4 days. I have not weighed am looking for results in my clothes....Pants still tight. Not seeing change. I drink water and have honestly not put one piece of food or drink in my mouth for 14 days that is not on the program. Lean meats, correct portions etc. Am I not losing because I'm in menopause? My keto sticks say I am in the lightest pink almost always but there is no change in my body! At what point does it start coming off? I am 5 ft. tall and weight 115 lbs. I have gained 20 lbs since turning 40. I went to two doctors and they both blew me off saying I looked fine. I know my menopause symptoms came on 4 years ago. No one listened. Thyroid did come back normal recently. I need some advice. I would be happy at 100 lbs again. That is what my doctor says I need to weigh. That does meet national standards on the weight charts. Please keep in mind...I work out everyday..even before Adkins!

You might have replaced some of the weight with muscle which is more dense.

Also, you only have 15 pounds to lose. Your weight loss will probably be much slower. Which really is a good thing because with such a little amount to lose, if you lost 10 in 2 weeks it would have probably been all water.

I'm not sure about the menopause but I don't doubt someone here can help you with that!

Thank you for your response. I hope someone will be able to tell me if it is the Hormone Replacement Therapy meds that are working against me. I will continue to stay the course but I have to be honest...I miss having my pizza and ice cream on Friday nights with the family but I miss being comfortable in my clothes more....therefore, I will stay the course.

Discuss the Hormone Replacement meds with your doctor and ask them what your alternatives might be. I would guess they may be the root or your issue.

Also, please know that regardless of what "shade" your ketostix turn, ketosis is ketosis. There are not degrees of ketosis. I liken it to pregnancy, you either are or you aren't.

I agree to discuss HRT options with your physician.

Please note also that lean means are fine if you prefer them but you need about 65% fat in your diet to do Atkins correctly. It is a high fat diet. I have seen a HUGE difference with weight loss slowing down since starting peri-menopause. Hormone changes create havoc with weight loss so that may be part of it. But here is something to consider. If you lift weights and have been doing so for some time. Your body will weigh more than the weight charts say you should for your height because you carry more muscle than the average five foot woman. I have talked to some very fit women who lift regularly and they tend to carry 10 pounds more in actual weight because they are more fit. The muscle is just denser. Plan on losing your weight over several months or so since you are so close. If that is the case the change from week to week might not be noticable. Better to weigh monthly and use a tape measure, not just clothes.

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

Re: Day 14 no weight lost

I will try to get a meeting with my doctor asap about the HRT. I have another question to ask you....Is it possible that I am not taking in enough fat in this program? You say 65% is from fat? How did I miss that? I have a habit of eating a weight lifter diet...tuna, boneless, skinless chicken breast, fish. I use to be all about BALANCE...Bill Phillips, Body for Life. I did fantastic on it for years. As I said earlier, at 40 something happened and I am desperate to stop the cycle of this weight gain. I actually have more energy on this program. I feel great so it is worth doing no matter what!

Re: Day 14 no weight lost

Weight gain is not a function of menopause, it’s a function of aging. Your metabolic rate drops as you age, which accounts for the weight gain.

However, because estrogen is stored in fat, many researchers believe that, when you enter menopause your body responds by holding on to fat cells in an effort to boost the lagging estrogen levels. The result? It’s tougher to lose fat and much easier to keep the pounds on.

I think you should hop on the scale... I don't think you are going to notice a difference in your clothes until you lose 7-10 lbs... and that might be quite a while since you are so small to begin with...

The fact that your stick is pink means that your body is burning fat... it wouldn't have a color otherwise...

Fat is what you live on doing this diet... Not enough fat and your body gets out of whack with the low carbs... The more fat you eat the more you will lose...

Re: Day 14 no weight lost

I also did 14 days of induction with no weight loss. I was very disappointed and frustrated. I need to lose 56 lbs to be healthy so you can imagine how discouraged I felt -- the only plus was I had lost 2 inches in my waist. I am now on extended induction and on Friday of my 3rd week I got on the scale. I was shocked when it displayed I had lost 10.2 lbs!

Don't give up. I almost did - but I am quite pleased that I did not. Good Luck!

Melzeeg, I just want to push the Whooshie fairy your way! I know exactly how you feel, but don't give up. You probably lost some weight and 14 days aren't enough to see a major difference in the way your clothes fit. I lose on an average of 10 to 12 lbs. Also, the lean meats should be laden with some fat, its the fat with minimal carbs help you to lose. I've never seen anyone doing well on primary lean meat.
Well, that's my 2cents, I wish you the very best!

Thank you so much for responding to my questions. I realize that 10-15 lbs doesn't sound like much to all of you but it is alot for my frame. My weight (fat) has nowhere to go but out....not up! I will do what you have suggested! Thank you so much for the encouragement. This has been a blessing...I was feeling a little discouraged. Thanks again!

MagsMom -- many, many thanks! I'm actually at the end of wk 3 of induction, and I've been frustrated because I've only lost 5lbs. Your story inspires me -- maybe there is still hope. My sister-in-law did mention today that it looked like I had lost weight...
