  • Can anyone relate? Need a boost.

I could sure use some words of wisdom and experience right now. Can anyone relate to my tale?

I started Atkins 19 days ago. I immediately lost 3 pounds, then another 1 ½, then I gained a pound back, and now I am stuck there. I thought it was the constipation, or my period, but both have ended now, and the scale has not budged. The tape measure moved initially and now is frozen, too. I have read a lot about stalls and plateaus, but I don’t really feel I even got started yet….sigh….I moved to OWL rung 1 to get more veggies (which relieved the constipation within a day—wonderful!) and have stayed under 25 net carbs since. I drink all my water, I lift weights 3x a week and walk at 3.5 mph for 30-40 minutes 2 x a week. I have been in ketosis (light to med pink on strips) since day 5 of Induction. I posted a menu and it seemed to be appropriate to those who viewed it.

I feel fantastic, otherwise, I think I just need a morale boost. Or maybe I just need a bit more patience while my poor body figures this all out.

Most of all: I would love to hear from anyone who has experienced this nigh on ‘no start’ and managed to break through. If it’s more patience I need, I’ll find it. If I need more fat in my diet (I average 65%), I’ll eat it. If I need to do the hokey pokey naked on Main Street, I can make that work, too, with pictures to prove it! J

Thanks for listening, and if anyone has a similar story to share, I am all ears!

    All the best.

I think the hokey pokey would do it...

What you are seeing is normal. A stall is defined as 4 consecutive weeks without any weight loss or loss of inches, so you're certainly not stalling. Weight/inches will come off at their own pace and you should not expect to see a loss every day or even every week. By the way, how often do you weigh yourself? Some folks do better if they only weigh once a week (not that I'm one of them, just saying... ), to avoid the disappointment of not losing daily or of seeing some gain.

If you are exercising at a level you weren't used to before, your muscles are probably retaining some fluid too, so that will add to your weight.

Don't despair.... Your body is going through some major changes right now... Just be sure that you are eating your veggies and drinking your water.. i find that if i slack on either of those i get stuck briefly.... try posting a menu and the many gurus here can help you with that too..

Just be assured that this way of life works and will work for you.. patience is truly a virtue in the atkins world for some of us that are just slow losers it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with what you are doing!!!

      good luck!

        Thank you!

I think I expected a drop after my period/constipation issues and was disappointed when it didn't show up. I know better, but sometimes you just get a little impatient and a little down when things don't work out the way you imagined. I am feeling much better today, and it does help to know that this is not abnormal. And hey, I'm still down a few pounds, I feel great, and I am healthier than I was 3 weeks ago! Where's the problem? And, it looks like I won't have to dance naked in public, after all!

Thanks so much for your support!

        Cheers.

Just wanted to say - keep at it and don't give up! I had a big chunk of no-scale-movement in my second and third weeks (depressing!). But then I lost a pound at the end of the third week and one more in the fourth week.

I think if you keep at it, you will see results!
