  • Grrr...I gained 2 lbs.

    Ok, I started Adkins on Friday, June 5th and today I have so far gained 2 lbs. Is this normal?? I read people that have been on it for 6 days that has lost. I am following it the way I am supposed to and still I gain 2 lbs. I am drinking my water, I exercise.....what could I be doing wrong??

    We cant say dont know what your eating daily why dont u write your daily food list and someone will advise you on that?then you'll know what your doing wrong.

      Here is an example of yesterday:

      Slice of Frittata in the morning which has eggs, cheese, green pepper, mushrooms, onion, salt & pepper, oregeno.

      I was at the movies during lunch, but I did take some pork skins and had a small caffine free diet coke.

      Dinner I had Salmon that was cooked in a little bit of pesto butter that I made and brocolli

      Snack - roast beef from the deli rolled up with a 1 inch wide piece of harvatti cheese and mayo - two of these.

      That's it for yesterday.

      Saturday

      The Frittata for breakfast

      4 oz steak and brocolli for lunch

      Dinner I went out to eat with my son and his wife and had small side salad and took the carrots out and small portion of beef fajaita meat.

      That's it for Saturday.

      On Friday,

      The Fritatta

      3 of the roast beef roll ups

      1 hamburger patty

      The Salmon meal from above.

      Everything I have ate is on the list and I have not over eaten and I have worked out everyday.

          Yes, it is, but I don't seem to be retaining fluid since I am going to the bathroom constantly.

              I agree with ms. Most of us just soak up water like a sponge because of those hormonal changes. Atkins told us not to weigh during our period. It is good advice because we cannot really see our true weight. So hang in there lady. You're doing fine.

              And you've probably not in ketosis yet. You just started. You need to be a bit patient. It will happen.

              Your menu looked pretty good. I have a couple of suggestions/concers
              *You should have 3 cups of vegetables - 2 cups salad veg, 1 other veggies (it does not look like you are doing this)
              *fat should be 65% of our calories. Your menu is big on protein but this is not a high protein diet. It is a high fat diet. So think about adding some
              *Drink plenty of water

                I figured since Salmon is a very fatty fish that it would work for the fat content and the pesto butter I make has olive oil in it.

                My bookstore didn't have the 2002 version of the Adkins book so I have ordered the book off of Amazon and am waiting for it.

                Can you give me some fat suggestions for me to use during induction. I will also add in some salad.

                  Also doesn't the caffeine-free Diet Coke have aspartame? If so, I'd recommend cutting that and seeing what happens. Aspartame is a known staller.

                    I only have a diet coke when I go to the movies which is probably once a month. Rest of the time I just drink water. I don't buy sodas for my refrigerator.

                      Your menu sounds good. You are having fat which is good. I would say be patient and weigh in again in a week and hopefully, you will see a good result then x

                        You also might want to head down the pharmacy and pick up some ketostix just so you can tell when you've actually gotten into ketosis. Also, not to nitpick, but the good doctor's name is ATkins.

                          I copied this from Level 1 - Acceptable Foods List

                          fats:
                          Salad Dressing (1 - 2 Tbsp per serving -- check the bottle)
                          Blue Cheese 2.3 carbs
                          Caesar .5 carbs
                          Italian 3.0 carbs
                          Lemon juice 2.8 carbs
                          Oil & Vinegar 1.0 carbs
                          Ranch 1.4 carbs

                          Fats and Oils -- no net carbs here, but keep in mind the serving size is approx 1 Tbsp.

                          Butter
                          Mayonaisse (we say Hellman's is ok - but try for no sugar added)
                          Olive Oil
                          Vegetable Oils:
                          Canola, Walnut, Soybean, Grape Seed, Sunflower, Safflower and Sesame.

                            I know, but my fingers always want to put the damn "D" in there!!!! It's a mental block. I will try to do better next time.

                            I already have the Ketosticks and it says that I am in light ketosis.
