  • Day 14 of induction -- 2nd time around

Today is my last day of induction. This has been by far a cleaner induction than the first time I did Atkins back in 2003. This time I cut out diet soda and pretty much all fake sugar save for one packet of splenda in half-caff coffee a few times a week.

Last time, I lost 14 pounds in the first two weeks. This time, I'm only down 4, but on a positive note, since I had about 8 pounds less to lose this time, I'm at the same weight I was on my 14th day of induction last time.

So, should I jump to OWL Rung 1, or should I continue on with induction? I'm pretty disappointed in my weight loss so far, but induction isn't feeling like that much of a diet. I'm not hungry and I've had very few cravings.

I've read that it's normal to lose more slowly the second time around, but I was hoping that wouldn't apply to me. Oh well!

I lost the same amount of weight the first time during induction, but it seems like I have been stuck at key weights longer this time. I have less weight to lose this time around, and I am just a bit older (lol) so I just figure it will take longer. I am almost at my goal. I find that I need to measure everything carefully this time, it helps me to keep track of what I am eating. I am also journalling everything. Seem to have trouble drinking enough water for some reason..... good luck Eva

Some people do better when they start climbing the rungs. The first rung is just some extra veggies...give it a shot!

      Started: 3/2/09

      ~280~270~260~250~240~230~220~210~200~190

      Realistic Final Goal: 190
      Stretch Goal: 140

Successfully did Atkins in 1998 using 1992 copy of the book...before it was "hip". Lost 60lbs, exercised daily, felt and looked great. And then I moved in with a junk-food loving man, my mom got sick and passed away, then I suffered a spinal cord injury, and junk-food dude left me...and now I weigh 292lbs. That's 22lbs MORE than I weighed the first time around. It's 10 years later...I know this will work for me again.

It depends on how much you have to lose, on how happy you are with the Induction foods, on your degree of metabolic resistance and so on. If you open the book at Chapter 13, there are four questions there. If your answer to #1 or #4 is "yes", or to #2 or #3 is "little", then it's time to move to OWL.

Yep, that's right. Not really something that has to do with Atkins per se though... Dr. Atkins told us to mail all complaints to Father Time, Box Office Eternity.

Did Atkins in early 90's and lost about 20 pounds. Have gained it back plus more. Atkins is the only way I've ever lost weight. Carbs are my enemy! I must lose weight for health reasons: blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes, and cholesterol control.

I quit smoking 3/18/09 and gained weight; so if I could do that, I can follow the Atkins plan once again - successfully - and stick to it!

          Thank you for being here!

            Hi there!
Just wanted to say good luck!

About moving to OWL, I think you should just listen to your body.
I'll be finishing induction next week, I'm going to move to rung 1, but I totally plan on just freezing there for a little while. I just want to be able to add in a bit more veggies.

What ever you choose, I'm sure you'll do great!!
Started Atkins on December 8th, 2005

            Officially Re-Focusing on 12-28-09.

            Was, Am, Will be: 280/222/175ish.
Started Dec 2005 and lost 105 lbs by mid 2006, maintained loss for the most part until 2009...then really let go & gained some back... lol

            so:
            Restart Progress:
            12/28/09 ~ 235.1
            01/04/10 ~ 229.0
            01/11/10 ~ 229.0 Grrrrr....
(Induction= only 6lbs but lost 10 inches! yay)
            01/18/10 ~ 227.4
            01/5/10 ~ 226.8
            02/01/10 ~ 222.6

              Hi adrelilu:

Thank you for the welcome and encouragement. I'm amazed at the difference in your before and after photos. I really didn't start my induction phase until last Monday, so I'm a week or so behind what I originally stated. I haven't weighed myself, but I can already tell that I've at least lost some water weight because my skirts and jeans are somewhat looser.

I've had to do some deep soul searching about losing this weight and I've finally realized that if I could give up smoking and go through nicotine withdrawal after 40 or more years of smoking off and one, then I could do this. My non-smoker status will be a year March 18. I needed to lose weight when I gave up cigarettes but then the pounds really packed on because of needing oral satisfaction and "rewards" for not smoking.
