First off, which of the following low carb studies did the BBC program quote? I have to know in order to find out exactly what the BBC presented to its audience. Foster GD, Wyatt HR, Hill JO, et al. A randomized trial of a low-carbohydrate diet for obesity. N Engl J Med (United States), May 22 2003, 348(21) p2082-90 Sharman MJ, Gomez AL, Kraemer WJ, et al. Very low-carbohydrate and low-fat diets affect fasting lipids and postprandial lipemia differently in overweight men. J Nutr (United States), Apr 2004, 134(4) p880-5 Yancy WS, Olsen MK, Guyton JR, et al. A low-carbohydrate, ketogenic diet versus a low-fat diet to treat obesity and hyperlipidemia: a randomized, controlled trial. Ann Intern Med (United States), May 18 2004, 140(10) p769-77 Stern L, Iqbal N, Seshadri P, et al. The effects of low-carbohydrate versus conventional weight loss diets in severely obese adults: one-year follow-up of a randomized trial. Ann Intern Med (United States), May 18 2004, 140(10) p778-85 Seshadri P, Iqbal N, Stern L, et al. A randomized study comparing the effects of a low-carbohydrate diet and a conventional diet on lipoprotein subfractions and C-reactive protein levels in patients with severe obesity. Am J Med (United States), Sep 15 2004, 117(6) p398-405 Meckling KA, O'Sullivan C, Saari D Comparison of a low-fat diet to a low-carbohydrate diet on weight loss, body composition, and risk factors for diabetes and cardiovascular disease in free-living, overweight men and women. J Clin Endocrinol Metab (United States), Jun 2004, 89(6) p2717-23 Samaha FF, Iqbal N, Seshadri P, et al. A low-carbohydrate as compared with a low-fat diet in severe obesity. N Engl J Med (United States), May 22 2003, 348(21) p2074-81 Thanks.

| Well first off Wayne, I've lost 95 pounds in 11 months. I guess it would make me sort of an expert. Not a medical expert but a "how to work the program" expert. I know my blood sugars have stabilized, my blood pressure is excellent, and my blood work is normal. You're not one of those "it's all water weight" type experts are you? If you are, boy do I have a few buckets of water to give to you! Before I would answer any questions I would love to see the study you are talking as I'm sure anyone else would. I don't like flying blind into anything. Dawn

| Hi there, By the way I am not here to start trouble, just to give the facts, if you have lost weight on it, and happy not eatting what most Nutritional experts say should be 60% of your diet, I have no problem with that. Great you have lost weight, but I did not say it did not work, but it work's in a way, well you will be surprised, but every Nutritional expert worldwide say it was not healthy, just about every one whom I have had contact with on the WWW says the same, no I am not on about water lose. The bbc presented the whole facts, they are non- biased, facts were from 3 not 4 sorry there, 3 lots of 60 people whom eat 3 different diets for 6 months then the data was scrutinised, and then the truth was told. As there is a fast response to this I will pop the link in to the study tomorrow night ok, late here 1.00 Thank you Wayne |

| save some reading for alot of people - basically the study found that the people on Atkins were eating the same amount of calories as those on low fat low calorie - and then concluded Atkins controls appetites. Wow, thanks for all the suspense there - that was incredible. PS - it definitely didn't say Atkins doesnt work just why they thought it did work - personally, I don't care because I know it works - if for this reason or that reason whatever...it works. |
