| this is a great thread I was always picky about the quality of food I boucht and ate but after going through all the phases of the Atkins thing...I tell you ...I have become much more of a connoisseur I find that one absolutely perfect artichoke beats out a bag of chips any day....and I will hunt for that perfect artichoke.. food is such an adventure anyway and for those of us who live where are so fortunate to have so many choices there is no excuse for eating crapp!!! Food is expensive so the foods I buy better be perfect, fresh , full of nutrition...and as you may have noticed when your mind is not numbed buy sugar you taste things more closely so you need to buy the best freshest and most full of nutrition to get your moneys worth!!! I love that you became a bit of a food snob I would love to see the day when the produce isle was more exciting to families than the cereal, breat and snack isle!!! |

| Ive always been very picky about food. I grew up on a farm that had an acre garden. Ive always demanded the best fresh veggies in my diet and the best flavored meats. Now though... Ill actually go to another store if the one Im at has less then stellar veggies that day. Before Id settle for what was the best at the time. I refuse to buy meats from a number of stores who have disgusting meat products (Walmart, Harmons) with no natural flavor, no matter the price.

| I, too, try to make my food choices with my brain, as well as my eyes. I'm not going to waste my daily allowance of calories/fat/carbs/protein on things that are not good quality. Sometimes I'll read the restaurant reviews in the local paper and think . . . "I could give this guy a run for his money. He's no expert, and I think that his opinions are only just HIS - not those of the general populace."

| What you guys said - same here. We also used to order food in on busy weekends and the two places we order from are the best in the neighbourhood, but I've noticed that now even they don't seem as good as my own cooking (and I was always a terrible cook! - Atkins has improved my cooking too!) I'm thinking about the sugar and sodium and msg and whatever else might be in there and that's why I'm making my own dinner on Sunday because it's my birthday and I want the most delicious, healthiest dinner I can get!

| I think I'm a 'snob' because I'm more aware of my food choices. When I was a vegetarian, I made sure I stuck to the vegetarian diet, but I wasn't too aware of the added sugars, fiber content, etc. and I definitely was not aware of serving sizes or portions! However, now I am more aware of the fiber/minerals/vitamins from my food and I try to pick the foods that will give me the most fiber/minerals/vitamins for their net carb value. And I am more aware of portion sizes and take that into consideration when I pick my food. So, I do find myself picking an extra 5 net carbs of blackberries over 5 net carbs of double fiber bread or 5 net carbs of asparagus over 5 net carbs of low carb cheesecake. I'm a nutrient-per-carbs miser: that's why I can't imagine spending a few carbs daily on 'empty' foods like low carb candy and some lower carb grain products.

| If i'm going to eat something I didn't cook i will definitely ask, "what's in that?" i never did that before, other than with take-out. I love all different cuisines, but i won't put garbage in my mouth anymore.

| Great thread. I'm picky in the sense that I too want to buy the best food I can! I take forever in the produce aisle now. |

| I totally agree!! It takes me forever to shop now. I grew up on a farm, and my Dad still plants a huge garden and raised beef cows. He makes his own feed, and lets them graze in fields that he planted. There is nothing better than a steak from one of my Dad's cows!! I can't wait for the garden this year, I already told him that he better plant extra because I gonna be down there every day!!

| i've noticed that i really really appreciate fresh veggies now. I even crave them at times. Also eating out has become a hit and miss thing, especially if we are going to a new place. Sometimes you finish eating and it's like i should of just stayed home! But I agree, no scary walmart meat here! |
