Question Caffeine

Hi, I was just curious but today while headed to my daughter's soccer game I was completely drained of energy so I stopped at Dunkin Donuts and grabbed an Iced Coffee w/a small amount of cream and 2 packets of Splenda. I know I'm not supposed to have caffeine but that's the only thing that gets me going during the day and with three kids and my busy life I definately need the pick me up. Honestly though I have been more or less addicted to caffeine ever since I had my first baby and before I went on Adkin's I was drinking up to 2 or 3 Iced Latte's or Iced Coffee's a day but I've really cut down a lot, in fact today was the first day I've had a coffee in a LONG time. I've heard caffeine gives you sugar cravings but that's never happened to me so can I still drink my Iced Coffee's if it's not giving me cravings for sweets?

do a little research on the effecx5 of caffeine on insulin and you will learn that caffeine is an insulin stimulator. And as all Atkineers know when insulin is in production in the blkood stream fat is stored not burned.

Many of us were caffeine addicts i drank 24 cans a day of DIET COKE when I started Atkins. You can give it up. you'd be surprized how much energy juast being in ketosis will give you and how calm your mind will get when you are caffeine free.

Wow, I didn't know that I just thought since I didn't get sugar cravings from it I was ok. I just don't know how I'm going to do it but I have to because I've already lost almost 20 pounds and I'm not gonna mess that up. It's just hard to have energy all day when I'm completely drained I wonder if there's any vitamins out there I can take for energy. My thyroid could also be causing this, I've been on medication for 7 years now but maybe it's time to have my levels checked again and my medication raised.

if you are hypothyroid you definitly should get your levels checked as many of the acceptable foods for induction effect thyroid function several low carbers have needed adjustments after they started.
Once you get that checked then you can follow Dr Atkins advice which is for tired folk to eat more foods.

Blood sugar instability isn't just sugar cravings. It's a whole list of things. Check out the chart in the book.
