Default Hunger Pangs

For breakfast I had 2.5 scrambled eggs w/shredded cheddar and diced fresh tomatoes and 2 oz smoked kielbasa. I was hungry about 30 minutes before my lunch time. For lunch I had a small chicken breast, 1 1/2 cups loosely packed spinach, 14 baby carrots and and some sugar-free Jell-O. That was over an hour ago. I am now getting hunger pangs again. This happened yesterday as well. I know that Dr. Atkins said if you get hungry you're doing something wrong. I'm on the 1st rung of OWL. Not sure what I should add to my diet. Any advice? Thanks!!

If you're on Rung 1, lose the carrots. Carrots belong on the starchy vegetable rung. Rung 1 is the addition of any veggie on the Induction Acceptable Foods list.

How much tomato did you use and have you eaten tomato before, if so have you had any problems with it?
What's the carb count on the kielbasa and have you eaten that brand before, if so have you had any problems with it?
What was your fat source for your lunch?

The kielbasa that I've seen has corn syrup in it. Might want to check that. And yeah, carrots have allot of natural sugar in them that could make you crave. But if you're doing everything right and you're still hungry, eat. Eggs, cheese, peice of meat.

The tomato was small and I ate half - 1st time, no problems.
Drop the carrots. . . got it. (they were SOOO good!)
Kielbasa carbs. . . not sure, I'm at work right now. Have had it once before with no problems.
Fat source at lunch. . . there wasn't one. I'll bring cheese tomorrow.
sigh. . . so many rules!

If tomato was 'new', then wait a day, reintroduce it and see what happens.

Just remember, Atkins is a high fat diet. The fat keeps you satisfied between meals and it helps to slow down the digestion of the carbs so they don't shoot your blood sugar levels up too high.

Rung 1 OWL is simple---it's just adding 5 net carbs of any Induction veggie to your Induction menu. Since you were eating 3 cups of veggies during Induction, this addition 5 net carbs will give you more food variety and snack possibilities.

Thanks Megs and Susan! And I wrote too soon. . . big time stomach and gas pain, like I used to get when I ate bad carbs. I'm thinking it is probably the carrots, because I have no problems with spinach. They may have to go on my no-no list.
Thanks again for the support!

You're very welcome. It can be a trial and error process. It takes a while to learn everything. It's good though to come here and ask questions if you're unsure.
