Default Just found out that my ACE is High.......

Hi I finish my 2 weeks on induction and only lost 3 lbs. I have 50 lbs to lose. So my ACE is "high". Does that mean that I can only eat 15 gram of carbs per day? I don't even know how to go up th rung now since my carb level is so low. What should I do now?

Did you check out your menu with people in here? make sure you were doing everything right? can i suggest you do that before we say you have a High metabolic resistance? which is what the book states you have.

After that, the book suggests that this is where you might want to stay on induction a couple of weeks longer or move up to OWL, it says nothing (that i can see) about you having to eat 15 net carbs, you dont have extreme metabolic resistance, its just low, it could be worse!!

This is nothing to do with you ACE by the way, its just your metabolic resistance and it by no means means you can only eat 15 net carbs forever, it just means your a slow loser, IF you were doing everything right!

Okay I weight myself again today and I actually lost 5 lbs, not 3lbs. I been lifting weights this whole week and no cardio. I wonder if that effect the weight loss . Well here is my menu:

Breakfast: 2 bunless burgers w/ 2 slice of swiss cheese on top.

Lunch: 13 hotwings with 2 table spoon of Newmens Own ranch. 3 cups of romain salad.

Snack: If i'm hungry I might make 13 more hotwings or 2 burgers /w cheese.

Dinner: boiled, Chicken leg and thigh.

yes exercise does effect the scales!!

If your at 5 pounds lost - youre just about average and you would follow this WOE like the rest of us.

Try and do something better with your veggies, lettuce is like leaves of water with no nutrition and pretty pointless!

Have you checked the contents on your burgers? made sure theres no "fillers" all the burgers i find have breadcrumbs in!

Hi Breadless,

Don't panic yet - Emma's right there are lots of things you can check first.

Looking at your menu I would say:
- that looks like a lot of protein to me, also there is not miuch variety there. Try fish and other meats.
- I don't know what hot wings are but 13 sounds a lot. Are they prepared with anything that is not allowed? Check ingredients for breadcrumbs, sugar, any syrups or things ending in 'ose' that will cause problems
- Instead of three cups of romaine lettuce have 2 of more substantial and nutritous salad veggies - like arugula, spinach, cucumber, tomatos. Etc. The induction list of good veggies in long - try lots or it will quickly become very dull. Also have a cup of heavier veg with your evening meal such as broccoli, zucchini, cabbage, etc. It is best to spread the veg through the day.
- Is the salad dressing sugar free?

I hope that helps.

Also you said you lifted weights- that can cause fluid retention, but don't stop doing it - weight will help tone and shift fat Some cardio for fat burning is good mixed in with it though.

Finally, how much weight are you aiming to lose? What height/build/age are you? these all have an effect on the speed of weight loss.

I'm not sur about the burgers but it doesn't have any sugar. The brand is First Street and I bought it from Smart & Final.

I just read dr atkins book on chapter 14 and he say to find out my ccll I have to add 5 gram of carbs (from the rung) until I see a stall, right?

The hotwings are safe it is unprocess wings with nothing added to them . Romaine Salad is easy for me to prepared thats why I eat only that for veggies. I just buy a bundle and chop it up... then put it in a big bag. But yea I'll try to find more variety.

My dressing isn't sugar free, It has 1 gram of sugar per serving (2 table spoon). Are there any brand that you reccomend, that I can get from Albertston, Ralph, or Stater Bros?

Finally, I want to lose 50 pounds. I'm 5'5 feet tall, started weight was 190lbs (now 185), chubby overweight build, 25 years old (turning 26 next month).

Any tips on how to do OWL for me?
Thanks!

Romaine may be easy to prepare, but it won't add much nutrition. You REALLY need to get more veg in and much more variety. The first rung of OWL involves adding more veg, and you are starting from a low base here, so I would recommend spending the next couple of weeks trying to eat as big a variety of veg as you can.

I ran your menu though www.fitday.com - assuming small wings and small burgers (3oz each). Even assuming that it means you are eating around 3000 calories a day - more on the days when you snack on wings. Although Dr A said don't count calories, he also pointed out that does NOT mean that calories don't count.

As a general guideline, during induction, you are supposed to eat so that your calories come approx 65% from fat, 30% from protein and 5% from carbs. It's only approximate, since I don't know exactly the size or weight of anything you ate or how you cooked them, but on a day when you eat a snack of wings you are getting 62% fat, 38% protein and 0% carbs, and a total of 3 net carbs!! On a day when you snack on burgers and cheese, your carbs are a little bit higher - but its from cheese, not veg.

MOST of your carbs should come from vegetables. You need to eat a LOT more of them. You are depriving your body of important nutrients by not doing so. Lettuce, of any kind, as Emma said already is really not much use from any point of view. Eat filling ones, then you may not feel the need to eat 26 wings in a day!!

Here are my tips for doing OWL (first rung, extra veg)

- Aim to eat at least 14-17 grams of carbs from vegetables every day on the first rung of OWL. Spread them out during the day. Most of your plate should be covered in veg.

- Vary your protein source, eat pork, eggs, fish as well as chicken and burgers.

- A cup of shreded romaine has less than 1 carb - eat as much as you like of it, but it barely counts.

The best of luck on OWL. I am willing to bet that if you up your veg and eat a bit less of the wings you will find your weight loss speeds up.

You mean too much wings is not good? I'll try to eat that once a day then. Oh yea i'm taking your advice and going on "rung 1". I'm choosing cucumbers for the first rung, and then I'm going to add more veggies on the list. Point is,... i'll eat less hotwings and more veggies. Thanks.

RIGHT! this is NOT a high protein diet, its a high FAT diet, excessive protein turns to glucose - and anything that ends in "ose" is not good for you!! now you can cook all your veggies in tonnes of butter if you want, (makes them taste wayyyyy better!!)

You need to choose something from the "other" veggie list something with some nutrients in it, brocolli is a good one, asparagus, cauliflower!
