Default What about Dried Fruit?

Hi

I am really enjoying the flaxmeal muffins, and was wondering about adding fruit to them. So are dried fruits acceptable?? like rasins, sultanas, dried berries etc

Im not sure adding fresh berries to the muffin mix would work??

No. Raisins and sultanas are very, very high in sugar. Once you get to the berries rung you can use fresh and dried berries though.

When fruits are dried, the sugars in them are condensed and many of them have even more sugar ADDED to them in the processing. Because of this, you can easily get a lot more sugar than you realize. Be very careful with dried fruits.

Valid is absolutely correct. Some manufacturers add sugar to their dried fruit products. Avoid those dried fruits completely!

However, if you dry your own fruits and don't add sugar to them, use them. But just remember that drying the fruit will shrink them down. So the amount of dried fruit you may eat is much smaller than the fresh amount.

I posted another thread about toddler snacks made by heinz and gerber, they're dehydrated bits of fruits and have no sugar added. they're not as concentrated as dried fruits....and work very well in recipes!

Thanks for all your advice! I will try drying berries out myself to add to my muffins and will look out for those Toddler Snacks Sadie mentioned.
