Default Re: OWL Power of 5 - 5 net gram foods

you keep everything you got in induction as acceptable foods and amounts. think of it was the foundation for your house of Atkins. now in OWL you are going the framing with the new food rungs.

remeber Dr Atkins viewed cheese as one carb one ounce so for the prograsm to work you need to view it the same way just like he wrote one ounce of nuts was 5 net carbs even though we all know from the books, packages and charts it isn't.
freash dairy is the rung and you can add the yogurt t here if your body can habdle it if not wait for premaintenznce and try again.

Happy OWling.

I have a request. I am intolerant of dairy, perhaps even allergic to it. So instead of using cream I like to use coconut milk. Could you include coconut milk in the list?

Also, does it belong in the nuts-&-seeds category?

Coconut Milk is in the nuts-&-seeds category. I will add it to the list.

just remember this list is by no means inclusive of all the OWL foods you can eat on a given rung. Nor does it mean you have to eat these foods during the Rung either.

There are a number of websites with nutritional info in addition to fitday.com. Here are two others that I use:

USDA Nutrient Database
http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/

Calorie King

http://www.calorieking.com

If you like books, I like The Complete Book of Food Counts by Corrine T. Netzer.

ok! I messed up with the carb ladder last time so I want to do it properly now!!!
I am going (again) through all the stickies and I am still confused about cup measurement!!!

How is it possible, if on induction DA allow only 3 cups of salad that, according to the list in this sticky, 13 cups of lettuce count only 5 gram of carbs???????????
I agree lettuce is one of the poorest carb green leave salad but why then I cannot have more of these during induction? and roughly......how many oz of lettuce is 13 cups?

Sorry, it's me again!!!!!!!!!!
reading these stickies sometimes I feel like in lack of some master degree In food and nutrition! here's my other question:

as leek is in the other vegetables allowed list for induction and as we are not allowed to have any starchy food on induction.............how does it come that leek appear in the 9th rung among the starchy veggies?

For the OWL vegetables, don't worry about "cup measurements", you are going by net carb measurements. The net carb amounts differ for every vegetable, every fruit, every legume and every grain. For example if you want to add leeks to your OWL diet, you'll add 5 net carbs worth of them, not 1 cup or 1/2 cup.

As for the 13 cups of lettuce and not being able to eat that amount during Induction...
Portion control is one of the things we are supposed to learn. Many of us have the problem of overeating/bingeing. In order to be healthy we have to learn healthy eating habits and eating 13 cups of lettuce, isn't an example of eating proper portion sizes. If you don't learn about portion control, you'll most likely get into trouble as you continue your Atkins because you'll consistently overeat and won't lose weight. That's a common problem with folks, like us, who are overweight because we overeat.
