Default OWL rung 3 - Recommendations

I have decided to move on to OWL rung 3 today as I have been doing rung 2 for a while.

I picked up some walnuts and brazil nuts to eat in moderation. Looking at the packet 50g per day should be good right?

What else might be worth me getting? How about stuff like pumpkin seeds?

I am trying to get lots of fibre at the moment, with suppliments, brown linseed, etc - is there a nut which I should be considering for this purpose?

Pumpkin seeds are so low in carbs, it's ridiculous. I love them. I also like to bake with almond flour. There is a good recipe on here somewhere for pound cake made with almond flour.

Here are some more ideas.
Seeds and Nuts
3 3/4 oz Macadamias (Dry Roasted)
2 1/4 oz Almonds (Dry Roasted)
1/4 cup Peanuts (Dry Roasted)
2 tbsp Peanut Butter (Natural, no sugar added)
1 cup Coconut meat (Fresh, shredded)
2/3 cup Coconut milk (liquid expressed from grated coconut meat, water added)
1/4 cup Sunflower seeds (Hulled)
2 1/4 oz Sunflower seeds (With hulls)
3/4 cup Walnuts (Shelled)
1/2 cup Pistachios (Roasted)
4 1/2 oz Pecans (Dry roasted)

Note: While the above lists the 5 net carb amounts for these items in the "Power of Five" section of Chapter 14 ( DANDR 2002), Dr. Atkins specifies these nuts/seeds are added in 1 ounce amounts (almonds, walnuts, macadamias, pecans, hulled sunflower seeds, roasted shelled peanuts). The exception is cashews which are limited to 1/2 ounce.)

Thank you for posting that info, Kassoria

It is a good reminder that Dr Atkins wanted us to limit our nuts to one ounce and not add the full 5 net carbs.

Seeds are really good too. I use a lot of flaxseed (linseed). Are you familiar with the one minute muffin? It is a good way to get plenty of fibre. I also use pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and sesame seeds.

I have one ounce of almonds every evening as a tv time snack. They are great for your heart and taste wonderful too! Brands DO matter though. Bought some ~el cheap o's at Big Lots that were not good at all!

I also premeasure and keep some with me for a quick snack if I am out and get hungry.

I LOVE the nut rung!

Good luck!

Yes

You can grind your own in a coffee grinder gadget or food processor but you do need to check every 1/2 minute or so or you could turn it into nut butter. No prizes for guessing how I know that

Just go carefully. I loved the nut rung the first time, too. But I found out that I have difficulty with portion control and also that some nuts actually start me off with BAAADD cravings for carbs. My nut rung this time consists only of almonds (because I can eat just one ounce or less) and peanut butter in recipes (because eating it from the spoon or on celery leads to portion issues for me)
