Question OWL How many carbs

Hi All

Can you tell me if it is ok to keep moving up the rungs and stay under 30 carbs. I didn't lose much in my 2 weeks induction (4lb) so am thinking my CCL is not to high. I've also tried one week at 30 carbs and was stalled so want to stay below this. Is this ok am currently on rung 4 berries and have had slow but steady weight loss. Has anyone else had to stay this low in OWL to keep losing weight?

Thanks in advance Ally

You can definitely move up the rungs without increasing your carb intake. But at one point you will need to find your CCLL, so you'll have to experiment with more carbs (e.g. stay at 30 g for more than one week and see what happens).

You said you stalled at 30 net carbs... What food did you add? It is possible that you were stalled by the food you added and not by the higher carb intake.

Are you exercising? Those who exercise regularly (see how Dr. Atkins defines this in DANDR) typically have a CCLL in the 60-90 g range.

Okay, I've just checked you stats... With only ~20 lbs to lose, a loss of 4 lbs during Induction indicates an average degree of metabolic resistance. This means that your CCLL can be as high as 40 g or higher if you exercise regularly.

Hi Georgiana the week I stalled and went upto 30 carbs was on dairy. I've also realised that I don't seem to be able to go over 1400 cals either to lose weight. The reason I put 20 lb to lose was because that seemed a good weight to get back to and one i hadn't been for 4 years and was realistic. That would make me around 10st 10lb and at 5ft.5" this isn't small or not sure if it is correct weight for my height. How do you know? I bike to and from work 2-3 times a week which is 14 miles a day but apart from that I don't do any other exercise.

As alwys ty for advice. Ally

Maybe the diary product you added (you added only one per week, right?) was the one that stopped your weight loss. You can either drop the diary product you last added and stay at 30 g -- if your weight loss restarts then it was a food intolerance -- or you can reduce your carb intake by 5 g and see if that will restart your weight loss.

What I do is go by dress size rather than weight. As long as I can fit into a size 6, I don't care if I'm 160 or 140 lbs. But when I determined my degree of metabolic resistance, I checked what my weight should be to have a BMI of 22 (approximately midway in the healthy range) and used that as my goal.

Increasing your activity level will increase your CCLL and will also improve your health. Dr. Atkins wrote that we should exercise at least 30 minutes every day. I think biking at a moderate pace means something like 12 mph. Three times a week that's about 3.5 hours... so if you divide this by 7 you get about 30 min per day. However, a regular exerciser is defined as someone who does vigorous exercise 5 days a week for at least 45 min.

Yes, I am thinking that perhaps a particular dairy product was the culprit and not the total carbs. The way to find out is to add the carb grams with foods you know don't stall you. Also too much cheese always slows me down. That could be it. Definitely experiment since your CCLL may really be much higher. Finally, one week without a loss doesnt mean you hit your CCLL. Your body could have been adjusting to the dairy or maybe it was just an off week. Now if four weeks go by without a loss, then you have to question. I would say try again.
