Default Nut Questions

First off, a couple easy ones: 1 oz. of nuts is by weight, right? It's easier for me to just weight than count individual nuts. Also, does the 1 oz. of nuts rule pretty much apply to all nuts and seeds or are there exceptions where you can have the full 5g of carbs and not worry about how many ounces this amounts to?

My other question is more of an opinion one... I know that Dr. Atkins said that peanuts and peanut butter are allowed on rung 3 but I've seen some people on this board don't add them until the legume rung. Has anyone found that adding them on rung 3 is too early? Anyone opinions out there about waiting?

All nuts and seeds are limited to 1 oz, with the exception of cashews that are limited to 1/2 oz.

I tried to add peanuts two weeks ago and peanut butter last week. Both are triggers for me. On the other hand, many people handle them just fine.

It's true that peanuts are legumes, but tomatoes are fruits and this doesn't mean we add them in OWL Rung 7. If you want to try peanuts in OWL Rung 3, I'd say go ahead.

Despite all your good intentions, you're mightily tempted by a food you're not supposed to have. What to do? I'll tell you this: You'd better have a strategy ready!"

Default Re: Nut Questions

If you look on packages, you'll see that most manufacturers give a number of nuts that will make up a 1 ounce serving. The thing is this: you'll have to follow the number for each brand because some manufacturers use smaller nuts than others.

Also in the book, there is a section in the OWL chapter that has how many nuts equals 1 ounce.

Default Re: Nut Questions

I added peanut butter in OWL Rung 3 and didn't have a problem with it - it isn't a trigger for me. A lot of people find portion control difficult with peanut butter. If you add it and don't get cravings/stop losing weight, then it is fine
