I think what she means is that she spends more than 1 week per rung. And while it could take longer it doesn't have to.

For example:

Week 1 Rung 1 You add 5 net carbs of cabbage every other day.

Week 2 Rung 1 You add 5 net carbs cabbage daily.

Week 3 Rung 1 You add 5 net carbs of turnips every other day and eat 5 net carbs of cabbage on the non-turnip days.

Week 4 Rung 1 You eat 5 net carbs of turnips every day.

Week 5 Rung 1 You eat 5 net carbs of Pumpkin every other day and cabbage/turnips on the non-pumpkin days

Etc.

This is slower, but then, Dr. Atkins wrote you should take OWL slowly. That's why I don't encourage people to move to OWL when they have 15-20 pounds left to go. It's probably the most important weight loss phase because you get to see how your body reacts to various foods---foods you will most likely be eating to maintain your goal weight.

I don't think it takes years... or, if it does, it's not a bad thing as long as you still have weight to lose. If I get bored with one rung and want to try a food from the next rung, I move up the Carbohydrate Ladder. Then if there is a food from a lower rung that I didn't try and I decide two months later that I want to add it back, I can always do it. For example, I tried peanuts when I was already in OWL Rung 4. One doesn't have to try all the fruits he/she knows in OWL Rung 7, for example.

You don't need to eat more cheese. Just substitute aged cheese with fresh cheese, yogurt, milk, etc.

But I've also decided well yogurt is a no no forever
Why is yogurt a "no no forever"? Full fat yogurt is allowed from OWL Rung 2 on.

Quote:
I love plain nonfat nothing artificial type yogurt and believe IN IT (if this makes sense). So I'm going to add that too.
I know it's not polite to make yuck of someone else's yum, but....... nonfat yogurt? It has more carbs than the full fat one, and probably has milk solids (e.g. milk protein concentrate) added to it. Not the healthiest choice, imo.

AND get my carbs up past 100 over the next couple of weeks (through vegetables/fruit in bigger quanity).
Why do you want to increase your net carbs from 30 or so (I think this is where you are at, right?) to over 100 in "the next couple of weeks"? There is nothing wrong in taking it slowly. And your CCLL might not be 100+.

I guess I don't believe my body will react negatively (even though I still am not quite sure what this means) to the foods that I want to eat. I've eaten them in abundance in the past and been leaner and healthy and really, just downright VIBRANT. I don't think I'm capable of taking 5 weeks introducing foods i.e. cabbage, turnips and pumpkin. That's too long hahh

I guess I'm just thinking I should be doing lean protein (bought canadian bacon instead of regular bacon today- how does one cook candian bacon hahha) and I should be eating the largest variety (and portions) of salad & cooked vegetables, plus fruits. I think these vegetables and fruits should make up the largest percentage of what I'm taking in. I ran a couple of sample menus through Fitday and believe for me the optimum breakout might be 45% fat, 25% carbs and 30% protein, which is just a little different I guess hhha

Interesting topic by the way, I'm downright FASCINATED hhah

I've had some health problems that seem to get relief from a lot of raw foods in my diet. Inflammation and auto-immune "issues" which is a huge part of my reason for wanting to be FIT.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a HUGE believer (and lover) of meat (and seafood etc) and conceptually and totally on board with the concept of the most natural WOE possible.

Thanks for your inputs.

LOVE how you phrased that, G!

Pete, I have to go with G on the non-fat yogurt. I also eat the plain, nothing added yogurt but have you tried the full-fat versions or even Greek yogurt such as FAGE? I think you will be instantly enamored.

>>I can't do that week by week "add a food".>>

You "can" ... you're just choosing not to.

Big difference!

>>AND get my carbs up past 100 over the next couple of weeks (through vegetables/fruit in bigger quanity).>>

What's the hurry?

This isn't a race you know.

Fat should still comprise the majority of your % calories daily. Some of the folks on Maintenance Phase will have fat %s in the 40s, but for OWL and Pre-Maintenance, it should stay above 50%.

There's nothing wrong with eating lean meat on Atkins, but you will need to eat added fat to make up for the leanness of the meat. So adding fats like olive oil is ideal.
