Default Overboard with celery, cucumbers & radishes

Earlier this week, I decided to move up to rung 1 and allow myself 25 carbs. So for the past few days I have been having a little spinach in egg at breakfast and eating celery, radishes and cucumber for am snack, some on salad for lunch, some for pm snack and dinner. Usually I have some cream cheese on the celery, and meat with lunch and dinner.

I have been tracking but just realized that I was averaging 32 gram a day for the past few day. One day it was 46. Yesterday, 28 carbs, I waited too long between pm snack and dinner and craved a steak. So I got a thin cut rib eye from grocery store, approximately 6 oz minus the bone and fried it up. Delicious! I tried to go to bed and forget about it but I wanted the other one from the package and before I could stop myself, I fried up the other one. Big Sigh...So I am not expecting a big weight. I have been so good and then I go and binge on meat. I am sick about this because it pushed my calories up tp 1800 for the day.

A couple other things are going on. It is the week or so before my period when I usually like salty stuff and I salted up the steak. I also might have been craving the protein and or iron as I have been eating smaller portions.

I don't know why I am telling you all this but I just wanted to share that carb overload on basic vegetable. It really is about portion control for whatever you eat.

I managed to cut back on the celery and radishes and cucumbers today. I only had them for afternoon snack.

Wha-a-a-a??? It seems hard to comprehend, based on this post, your carbs that high...

Have you been to www.fitday.com to enter the day's menu to see exactly how your menu adds up? If not, DO !
(note- be sure you are considering the NET not the "total" grams of carbs...

I am using fitday. I went back and looked at and subtracted the fiber. I guess it isn't as bad as I thought. Today 28 carbs - 7 fiber = 21net, yesterday 28- 12 fiber = 17 net, monday 46 - 15 fiber= 31 net.

There is some carbs and no fiber in the cream cheese.

Thanks for the response.

The program does not limit calorie intake. Eating alot of steak is not against the rules of this diet (unless you slather it with steak or bbq sauce!). The "metabolic difference" chapter in DANDR explains this. Also the "facts and fallacies" chapter.

Also 1500 a day is the minimum you should have. 1800 is actually about right if you are active.

If you're concerned about portion control with certain meats, put the meat you're not eating today in the freezer. Then take out what you plan to eat for the next day to thaw over night in the fridge. Ya can't eat it if it's frozen, eh?

If freezing meat works for you, great. My problem is that I have a microwave which will thaw meat in 2 minutes.

I get double duty out of my frozen meat supply: It it used as "ice" in the cooler to keep my ready to eat food for the day cold! Then it gets cooked that night, or next morning, if I don't re-freeze it. (I've never had a problem with that, so long as thawing was only partial).
