Default Planning ahead - dairy rung

I'm not there yet, skipped this rung and have been testing nuts because I didn't think they would be a problem (and haven't been) and feel less sure about the dairy rung.

So I was at Krogers and noticed they have some "Carbmaster" store brand flavored yogurt that I think was sweetened with splenda but maybe had Ace-K also. I think they were 3 or 4 carbs each.

Anyone have any thoughts on these? Do they contain only allowable ingredients? Have you noticed them causing any slowdowns in your weight loss?

according to google
Quote:
Ingredients: water, milk protein concentrate, whey protein concentrate, cream, modified corn starch, glycerine, natural and artifical flavor, salt, gelatin, tricalcium phosphate, malic acid, phosphoric acid, pectin, agar, sodium citrate, sucralose, acesulfame potassium, annatto and turmeric extract (for color), vitamin a palmitate, vitamin D3, active cultures with L acidophilus and B. bifidum
it does contain corn starch, so strictly speaking would not be 'legal' till the 9th OWL rung.

Can you get Fage Total Greek Yogurt where you are? It has only 3.2 grams of carbs per 100 gram (1/2 cup) and contains just

It really is a shame that most of the commercial flavored yogurts are full of junk, fillers and chemicals. There is no need for it. They are cheap foods designed to make a profit. Shame on them.

I also highly recommend FAGE Greek yogurt. Trader Joe's (if you have one near you) has a wonderful version too. It is real yogurt as you can see from the ingredients Elizellen posted. And it's low carb with a lot of fat and protein too. A 1/2 cup of FAGE with some raw veggies (or berries when you're in the berry rung) can be a meal. And you can cook with it too without it breaking. Can't make any of those claims with those other chem-gurts.

p.s. I've been having Greek yogurt for a couple of years now. This past summer I got sucked in by a watermelon yogurt. I just love watermelon and so I bought it. OMG...yuck. After having the real stuff for so long all I could taste was artificial sweeteners and fake flavor. Never again.

I too am constantly disappointed with all the unnecessary junk that is inserted into store-bought processed foods. Just last week I was looking at a friend's pack of hotdogs in the fridge - 4 carbs per dog because they had inserted corn syrup in the mix. WTH for, good grief!

I'm not a fan in general of basically any pre-made foods, avoid them as much as possible though not in near totality as of late like I have in years past. In a busy world and with my former cooking partner in absentia, I do the best I can but do pick up a few things that make life and this way of eating easier at the moment and realize I sometimes have to trade off dietary perfection for ability to stick to this w.o.e. overall.

I will look for the greek yogurt - haven't noticed it, but haven't really looked either.

Thanks for your comments!

I found the FAGE yogurt locally, thanks! I'm still looking for the organic/biodynamic yogurt I used to buy when I lived elsewhere which had nothing in it at all except milk and cultures - no stabilizers or thickeners whatsoever. Probably hard to locate though, as it is from a small family-owned dairy farm with limited production capacity.
