Nice to meet you all - I just joined this bulletin board today and i actually just found this thread. This is great! I am in any way, shape, or form trying to better my life - become a healthier me! In July of 2004, i began my journey for sobriety - with a few slips here and there, i am proud to say i was sober for one year March 29, 2006 (so today, its almost been 14 months). Its been a looooong long road, but a challange i wasnt willing to give up on. I have come such a long way in the past 2 years. i am a totally different person.

I started smoking cigarettes when i was 15 - worst decision i ever made haha. anyways, right away, i was hooked. In January, of this year, i decided since i gave up drinkin' and druggin' sucessfully, i am and will be able to give up smoking. And that I have. This is very hard, and a huge challenge to date. Just last week, i bought 2 packs of cigs on 2 different occasions - smoke 4, wet the pack and threw them away... i didnt want them and i dont want to be a smoker anymore. since then, i've been fine. i dont need cigs in my life.


Do away with one addiction and get another -- this is me. Now, caffeine... going to AA meetings, etc, and trying to have a social life, i've become quite the coffee expert. Since starting Atkins, i have definately stuggled with not having caffeine. I did one day, had 1/2 reg, 1/2 decaf, but havent really had any since... im like dragging now.

9 days into my Atkins "new way of living" and i feel good. Not great, but good. But this is something i need to do for myself. i think it will make me feel whole and ffree once i am able to ge to a weight where i feel confortable with myself. Since just registered this morning, i have had so much help and support already, i cant wait to see what is to come....

and i cant wait to meet all of you! i want to wish everyone the best on their weightloss journey!

welcome to the adbb, courtney! thanks for sharing part of your life that way. takes courage to tell some of that.

i lived with an acholic and i can tell you it wasn't fun. it's great that you have kicked that to the curb! he traded beer and cigs for coffee too! lol well actually he traded beer for coffee and cigs for candy bars. no, he is not on atkins! lol

Hi Jimmie, thanks. Yeah, well I am always willing to share my experiences, just because sometimes people learn from others' mistakes - I am not ashamed, I am just happy I am someone different today. Haha i would hope your friend was not on Atkins! Sounds like a good diet to me, but definately not healthy!

Hey laurenfra, thanks for the welcome. I started coming on here about 2 days before i actually signed up/registered. I've noticed it is a good place with lots of great people!

that friend is myjack, my husband! lol
he's so different from the guy i married, thank goodness. i'll take a coffee drinking, candy bar eating guy any day over beer and cigs! lol

my sons bday is may 13! we had a whole weekend of special days, didn't we!

congrats on that 3.5 pound loss!

hha oh, sorry. i didnt want to assume he was your significant other, etc. so thats why i worded it that way - i agree with you. my boyfriend is in recovery also and eats sweets like its nothing (he doesnt gain weight though haha) but i'd rather tha than him struggle with his alcoholism.

You are really beating all the demons, I commend you! I have a hard time not picking up a drink. In fact, I like a cocktail most nights after work. But now that I'm on Atkins I've had to give it up. I'm doing it but man it is something I think about often. How long before you don't think you really need the stuff?
