| Hi I am not that knowledgable about PCOS, but I am aware that the Atkins diet can help. Hopefully a much more inciteful person will follow up my post for you. Welcome to ADBB. Rich

| I have PCOS; I was diagnosed in 2001 after trying to get pregant, like forever, and failing, my periods disappeared and I ganed 70 lbs in one month! It seemed like the worst day of my life when my doctor told me this. But I decided to take action and get informed and get informed I did. Go to Soulcysters.com and you will learn a ton of things there and many women who will share their stories with you or you can read. One thing you will learn is that a low carb diet has been proven to help ease, slow or even eradicate symptoms for most women. I was encouraged by my PCP to do Atkins and went out and bought a book. My blood pressure is finally in the normal range, my hair growth has slowed down, I lost over 50 lbs, my periods returned to normal, and most miraculous of all, I just found out that I am expecting my first baby! Most women find some relief doing Atkins especially weight gain but having said all that, it is not a miracle cure. While it does help a lot of things, most women still have to do some kind of maintenance to keep PCOS under control. Atkins makes PCOS controllable and some lucky, blessed women see their symptoms actually disappear totally but that is not everybody. Me, for example, still need to use Vaniqua to keep my hair growth to a minimum. Doing Atkins will be hard but it is so worth it. Just hang in there and keep on the plan. It takes time as well. I know this seems like the end of the world but it truly isn't. You have to pick yourself up and open the curtains. Try taking a vit. B complex vitamin for hair loss (it can help) and try Proactive for the acne (great stuff) and keep going with life! Don't let it win!!! |
