Default Back to Atkins Postpartum

I did Atkins before I got pregnant, and I plan on returning to induction a few days after I deliver. I will deliver on July 21st and I can't wait to get back into losing weight. Has anyone had any experience with this? Or maybe known someone to do this? Any suggestions? (I don't plan on breastfeeding)

I am very interested in any info anyone has to share on this as well - I am excited to be less than 3 months away from getting back to induction.

I know this thread is old but I wanted to share my experience for anyone who might wonder the same thing.

When you first deliver, as you probably know, your hormones will be changing yet again and DANDR says that hormonal fluctuations can hinder weight loss. Same reason we stop or gain around TOM. That being said, everyone's hormones are different.. as are your reaction to each pregnancy.

When I had my son 4 years ago, I was retaining so much weight due to high BP that when I started 1 1/2 months post partum, I lost a TON of water weight fast. Like 15 pounds in 2 weeks..and I only had 55 pounds to lose. This was also my first time on Atkins.

After I had my daughter 2 years later..it was a little different. I jumped back on maybe 3 weeks later and the weight came off a lot slower than the first time (but still at a decent rate). It was also harder since I am the type to weigh everyday and saw fluctuations I never did the first go round.

Given how much of a drastic change our bodies undergo after delivery, I wouldn't jump right onto induction immedietly. Some might disagree, but that's my opinion. I gave myself about 4-6 few weeks, (I needed more time to heal with having a c/s) and then I jumped into Induction head first. I was able to do very light exercise with is a very important part of this WOL.

I would say that when you are healed after delivery, and you are NOT nursing...jump in when you're ready. If you have/had a c/s then give yourself time to heal. If you had a fantastic natural delivery and are up for it, by all means, Do it!
No one knows our bodies better than we do. Listen to your instincts and you will do fine

I hope this helps! Hopefully others will come and share their experiences as well.

I know this is a little older post but I just found my way back = )

I just had my baby on July 6th after a c-section. I fully intended to get back on board after delivery but decided a few days after to give myself the full 6 weeks post partem. I am only 1 week, 1 day away and I can surely say I was not ready or mentally prepared to get back on but I am looking forward to it. I am also breast feeding and I have noticed that I am losing weight slowly (preggo weight) but that has kept me content anyway. Before becoming pregnant I was 296. I got down to 230 lbs (yay !) in four months. Then I found out that I was preggers and put on 30 lbs. through out the pregnancy (bringing me up to 260). I thought after the baby was born that I would have lost most of it and I was SO WRONG. I held alot of water and swelling after the c-section and 2 weeks out I was still 254 lbs ... which made me decide to wait on Atkins. I have lost so far 16 of the 30 lbs .. Just wanted to share my story !

Good Luck to you all = )

I wanted to try this after having my baby at the beginning of the year, but I read that you should not do any phase of Atkins except lifetime maintenance. So that's why I'm only starting after 7 months post partum. Unfortunately, with both of my pregnancies I have gained the most weight after the baby was born (even though I was breastfeeding!). Hopefully this diet can put things right for me!
