Re: Type 2, atkins, and pregnancy??? | | If you google and read up on the Brewer's diet you'll find lots of good info. Essentially the brewer's diet is a low glycemic diet if you follow it - you are doing Atkin's maintance. You eat mostly protien, fats, and non-starch vegetable. then you get 1 fruit and one serving of starch carbs. So 1/2 cup potatoes, 1/2 brown rice, 1 slice of whole grain bread ect. It is a whole foods outlook with a goal of stable blood sugars. It IS ideal for pregnancy.
Hi protein is FABULOUS for pregnancy. If you read the work of Elizabeth Noble or Barbara Luke they talk about protien in the diet. They have focused msot of their on moms carrying multiple births to term. Ir ead extensively while Pg with my twins. They also talk about 100-140 grams per day for a singleton pregnancy and that most women in the US are not consuming enough protien and attach some of these concerns to our igh prematurity rates, high infant mortality rates, and high maternal death rates. (We are higher than ALL of the industrialized countries in Europe.)
Induction type carb intake is not safe.
