Default Fitday question

I am trying really hard to even like this program at the moment since it is slower than slow and stalls out

So, it's always calculating total carbs and not total carbs minus fiber..... So my broccoli tallies 9.5carbs in a cup. So do I have to go in and customize EVERYTHING?

Also, I was reading posts about the proprotions of Fat/Carbs/Protien (65/5/30) ok, so i am sitting here trying to fudge around and get it to balance and I can't stay under 20 carbs and still get 5% carbs and maintain the fat and protien accordingly.

Turns out I have never had a single day that was balanced by those proportions. I have eaten less than 20 carbs everyday but the ratios are all off.

what gives? Who is getting this program to actually work and how are you doing it and are you using the free version online or did you pay the $20 and get the PC version...and if so is it better.

This is my obsessive personality coming out to do things "right" I lost 10.4lbs the first two weeks and nothing the third. I am not metabolically resistant - but I'm frustrated. It seems the only way i can get the numbers closer is to eat really lean protein and add more carbs -but then I go over 20 per day.

HELP!!!

Hi Erika

I am sorry that fitday is frustrating you at the moment. It is fiddly to get the hang of I know, but I eventually managed to make the online version useful when I started using it a few years ago.

I now use the pc version as it is handy not to have to be online to use it, which is a bit easier as it allows me to set it up to calculate the net carbs for me.

But you can get the online version to display the fibre carbs so you can manually work out your net carbs. To do this you need to set a 'goal' for fibre by clicking on the goals tab and selecting Dietary Fiber from the 'Create Nutritional Goal' dropdown menu and clicking 'Go'. This will add Fiber to your goals and then all you need to do is add a number in the minimum/maximum box - any old number will do. Then the fibre carbs will display in your Food log page.

As to how to make your menus more in line with the often suggested ratios, without seeing your fitday numbers that is hard, so you can allow us to peek at them by clicking on the 'Home' tab and scrolling right down to the 'Make my journal public' button and clicking that. You will be given a url that you can post here to let others access that part of your fitday account.

Fitday counts carbs and fiber. Just take the fiber out of the carbs, and there are your net carbs. Fitday is great, please just give it a chance. I have no problem getting my ratios correct, and I don't go over my carbs. It doesn't have to be perfect, 66% fat one day, or 31% protein another is fine. You just don't want to over do the protein. It takes me about 10 minutes to plug in my whole days worth of food when I get home from school.

I had lots of problems with the site never really working.. then I tried SparkPeople - I think it way better and actually makes dieting fun. I find it easer to use and the motivational tools are good to.

on sparkpeople if you choose to track "Carbohydrates" it will be total carbs, but they have a nutrient called "carbs (for low-carb diets)" which subtracts off the fibre.

So how come you are doing that net carb thing. That is not really necessary.

To tell me if I customized it for net carbs vs total carbs...otherwise it's counting total - so I assigned anything I customized with a "net" in the title to be able to remember.

Can you set the program to count things to the quarter or half gram. It rounds the wrong way. For instance if lettuce has 1.6 net carbs it's counting it as 1 - but if you eat 2 cups you are shorting yourself an entire carb of veg.

Default Re: Fitday question

Ahh I see. That makes sense.

I am not absolutely sure about Fitday. But I understand that even if it does not display the numbers behind the comma it keeps track of them.
So if I at something that has 1.25 carb it will total that to 1 carb. If I eat something that has 1.75 carb it may may total that individually to 1 or 2 but if I add them together it will all of a suddenly say 3 total carbs.

I like fitday myself. It has become a necessary tool for me. I am a bit anal but I have come to accept whatever it does as OK enough.

I haven't used the online version in years, but the PC version is well worth the 20 bucks. Still have to customize a few things but once they are in they are in.

855 calories!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????????? ????????

your body is in starvation mode.

(edit) nevermind, i see that the first page is just so far today, but i looked at the day before that and it was something like 1300 calories, which is still really low. your percentages for yesterday are something like 68%/4%/26%...which isn't too far off.
