Atkins Phase: Extended Induction

Default Critique my meals today (3rd day of induction)

4 scrambled eggs w/ (2) 1" cubes of cheddar cheese
3 strips of bacon
3 cups of lettuce w/ 1 tbsp of ranch
10 shrimp
2 6" stalks of celery
2 thick steaks
1 packaged string cheese
1 stalk of asparagus
1" cube of monetary pepper jack cheese
2 mini babybel original cheeses
About 4000ml of water

WOW, that seems like a ton of food now that I've gotten it typed out, what do you think?

I think it sounds good. The content is good and so are most of the quantities but I don't think I could eat that many eggs. I ussually make 2, esspecially if I add something to them and be carefull with the cheeses.

You should be eating 3 cups of vegetables per day, with maximum 1 cup coming from the "Other Vegetables" list. Right now you are eating more. Maybe you want to cut down on the lettuce.

Cheese is limited to 3-4 oz per day. I'm not sure how much those 1" cubes weigh.

Otherwise I think it looks pretty good. Are you getting enough fat there? You should be aiming for approx. 65%. Also check that over half of your net carbs are coming from vegetables.

I was following this website for veggys: Acceptable Foods List

3 cups Romaine lettuce: 3*.2 = .6
2 6" Celery: .8
1 asparagus: .4

that adds up to only 1.8 net grams of carbs....that can't be right, what's wrong?

We do not follow that website. They have changed the rules somewhat. We follow the 2002 Atkins book - this is the last book on the diet published while Atkins still was around. So the rules for induction in that book looks like this:

Hi rifleman, great post.
You could probably eat a whole head of lettuce and not come close to our 20 carb limit, but for the first two weeks, we stick to the 2-3 cup limit just cause the good Dr said so.
After that, you can go up the "ladder" and add more veggies (5 gm carbs more)
If your only problem is eating veggies though, I wouldn't really worry about it, there are things that really are bad, like Atkins Shakes and Bars that that site recommends and/because they want the $$$ they get from them. We know that shakes and bars cause a multitude of problems, up to and including diarrhea, stalls, etc.
Your cheese is fine, but no more than that.
shrimp does have carbs, but you need to double that amount to get up to one carb.
As you progress you will find your appetite is less and less and you will eat less, so dont worry about eating to much
