Default Menu advice...

This is my menu for today, i need some advice on what to add or substract from it:

Breakfast:

I egg 0 carbs
spam 1 ounce 2 carbs
bacon 2 strips 0? carbs
am. cheese 1 slice 2 carbs
decaff coffee 0 carbs
non dairy cream 1 t.s. 1 carb
1 packet slenda 1 carb
20 oz. water 0 carbs

-----------------

snack after going to groc store:
10 porkskins 0 carbs
6 dill pickels hamburger slices 0 carbs
20 oz. water 0 carbs

-----------------

Lunch/dinner

2 boneless pork loins 0 carbs
1/2 cup green beans 2 carbs
salad consisting of:
2 cups lettuce ? carbs
I diced tomatoes and celery together measuring it at 1/2 cup ? carbs
cheddar cheese 0 carbs
blue cheese salad dressing 2 tbs. 1 carb
porkrinds sprinkled in salad 0 grams
20 oz. water

(still got to get 2 more waters in for today)

i use garlic powder and pepper and a salt substitute for salt for seasoning and butter.

Cooking and preparing meals is new to me. I am 41 and divorced and lived alone, and I used to either eat out or buy microwaveable meals. I was married for 12 years and the wife did all the cooking.

I was unsure about the celery since its in the same category with the lettuce. So anything someone could substract or add to this would be greatly appreciated. I am running late today, and havent had time for 3 meals. May get in a late night meal, not sure, I just ate a hour ago. I hope i gave enough detail, this is a whole new ballgame for me.

I bought some sugar free jello at the store that had no carbs, got home and later tonight that it had asparatame in it.

I'm open to any suggestions for addons, or simple recipes, or a short order cook, lol.

THANKS

Hi Rich
Have you discovered www.fitday.com yet?
You can open a free 'account' there and list all your foods for it to calculate all your figures.
I use it to plan my menus as I can see at a glance how many carbs I would be eating.

Just a few comments about your menus

You ought to be using real cream instead of the non-dairy stuff

Make sure there is no sugar added to the dill pickles

Your veggies are fine - if you only have 1/2 cup of the 'one-cup' list you can have 2.5 cups of the other list.

As to your pork rinds - I read here that Dr Atkins used to limit people to 1 cup per day as they are very salty and make some people retain water.

You can make your own 'jello' from plain gelatin and a 'legal' sweetener but are restricted to only 3 servings of sweetener a day. BTW many of us found that by not eating sweetened foods during induction (but having a high-fat snack instead) our sweet tooth seems to have vanished!

Looks like you made a good start on your Atkins planning.

As to not being much of a cook - we have a cooking forum down the index page and there is lots of advice and encouragement on offer from experts there

Also, it's best for your blood sugar levels if you spread your veggies throughout the day,not all in one meal (although I do see the pickel snack). I don't know what all goes into Spam, but I would read the ingredients and look for sugar and/or starch fillers. The non dairy creamer is a no no. Use real heavy cream. I agree with Elizellen, you're off to a good start.

Default couple of questions

I started fitday a couple of days ago, and using the custom foods, and i noticed that it was asking for alcohol, would that be for the sugar grams in the ingredients?

I also noticed on the tomato option, that a slice of a tomato is 3 or 4 grams of carbs, is that round about the general area for a slice of a tomato.

Thanks
