Exclamation 2nd Time Around for 3 years straight -- finally found the answer

Hi, everyone! Happy 4th of July weekend!!! I am so psyched to share with you something I found by accident. Here's my Atkins history. I lost 30 pounds in 2 months 8 years ago on Atkins, and I didn't even really do induction. I was so happy with the initial results. My life changed. I got a divorce and my 16 year old niece moved in with me and we barely scraped by, so I couldn't afford to eat as well as I should have. I started having cravings and insatiable hunger. I put the 30 pounds back on. I re-started Atkins and did religious induction, but became pregnant, and had revolving various cravings, which I felt powerless to resist. I lost the baby and I've had the hardest time losing weight this 2nd time around on Atkins -- for 3 years. Since my miscarriage I've re-started induction religiously I cannot tell you how many times. A lot of my problem was emotional eating. I've tried so many different things to get the ball rolling again. I've tried lowering the carbs to virtually nothing -- no results. I've tried adding "a little more fat" -- no results. I've tried the candida diet because I do believe I've got candida. I sustained a loss of 12 pounds and stopped at 12 pounds. I lost cravings for a short period of time, but they came back. I don't even know how I stumbled upon this, but I found a link to the Homo Optimus or Optimal Diet. It is a high fat diet developed by a doctor from Poland named Dr. Jan Kwasniewski. I was intrigued. It made a lot of sense to me, because the first time I went on Atkins I went from a low fat (virtually zero fat intake) to Atkins. I remembered how satisfied I was and how I was hardly ever hungry, compared to how I was feeling this 2nd time around...I always had cravings and a huge relentless appetite, and Atkins wasn't curbing the cravings and I was not losing weight. Well, just to try the Homo Optimus diet out, I started adding quite a bit more fat to my diet, and BINGO! Cravings and insane, relentless hunger are gone. I just received the book today and can't wait to get started reading it. I've been so obsessed about losing (or not losing) weight and depressed about it that I've been living with my head up my rear and haven't gotten anything done around the house. My projects have been piling up. I make jewelry and those projects and repairs are piling up. Today is the first time in years I feel so motivated. I now actually look forward to plowing through all the piles of crap I've let accumulate. I just wanted to share with you this great news. It hasn't been even a week yet, so my weight loss isn't reflecting on the scale yet, but with me my appetite has been 75% of my problem. I'll keep you posted on my progress.

Ok, but you should probably post this in the "Other low carb dieting" forum, not here......

Ok. How do you move a post? How can one determine whether or not this is a "2nd time around" or "other low carbing diet" ("OLCD") post? I made numerous "2nd time around" posts on the old old board, but, of course, not under that title, because "2nd time around" is new. I always felt my 2nd time around issues are 2nd time around issues for me or I would have definitely put it under the OLCD threads. In fact, over much personal angst, internal reflection and some long-awaited drinking , I decided to put it here...so, I'll blame Mr. Chardonnay, who, of course, is usually not invited to Atkins-related activities such as dieting, eating and posting, but, after all, it is a holiday weekend and such and is sitting to the left of the keyboard and ... what was I saying? Oh, blast...never mind. Just kidding, of course. Finelly, is it possible to move this post, or should I just copy it? Thanks!!!

Hi Emster
I can understand why you'd post in the STAC forum as it is the second time round for you no matter how you do it. Guess folks may feel that the Optimal Diet is non-Atkins and it could confuse them.

May I suggest PMing a mod to move the thread for you? (that is if they don't spot it and move it themselves

PLUS, I would actually like to hear more about this diet and hear further how it works for you. Dr A's "Fat Fast" is based on extremely high fats and based on some studies done by Kedgwick (sorry can't remember the spelling) - this could be similar to what you're talking about... maybe?

Is it kinda like the Banta diet?

Cheers.

LOL, i have absolutely NO CLUE how to move a post!!! A mod will probably do it, though.

It's complicated, what with the new board and also all of the different forums, to figure out where to post what! But pretty much anything that isn't straight, by the book Atkins goes in the other low carb forum.

Hi, tickletussler. I'm still learning about this diet. I didn't have time yesterday to get into the book and absorb, but last week I did go to the links in my post above and learned that Dr. Kwasniewski claims it treats type 1 diabetes (people can get off insulin), artherosclerosis, improves respiratory conditions, rheumatoid and other types of arthritis and numerous other illnesses and medical conditions. I do believe I read somewhere that they've used it to treat autism. I'm not sure if it was an article I found on the web or on the site below. I know for me it's been really helping my short term memory. People with candida sometimes have poor memory and mine has been annoyingly poor in recent years. And, Tickletussler, you'll be pleased to learn that there's an Australian message board for the diet. Here's the link. Australian Homo Optimus Association There's tons of info there, but it seems that board is not quite as active as ADBB. There's a Polish support group in Chicago in the area where I lived until 3 years ago. I've searched for a U.S. message board, but I don't know if one just doesn't exist yet or I just can't find it. Next time I go home I'll stop by a fabulous Polish deli, Frank and Joe's, on the south side and ask around. It's really cool. Most everyone in there speaks Polish.
