My doctor is a woman, and she is very supportive of the Atkins program. When I told her that I wanted to follow Atkins, she gave me an oral quiz, right then and there, as to whether I had read the book and understood the correct way to do the program. We discussed whether or not I would stay on Induction, or move on in two weeks. Since I have a good bit of weight to lose, she said that I could stay on Induction if I wanted to do that, but I told her that I'd rather move up so that I don't risk getting bored or feeling deprived. She gave me the starting blood tests, and I go back to see her in October for a six month follow up with blood work. When I left her office that day, she said, "Call me if you have any problems or questions, and feel free to stop in anytime and use the scale, and don't forget to take your measurements and record them."

I had another doctor visit this week, this time with my dermatologist. I learned something else interesting. I've had kinda bad skin most of my adult life. Not really enough to qualify as acne, but I am never without some kind of breakout. So he put me on tetracycline to clear me up in the here and now, but I also learned that too much sugar in the diet is a common cause of acne. You always hear these days about how diet doesn't cause acne, but what I'm learning now is pretty much - how can diet NOT contribute to how your skin looks and behaves? Supposedly there are lots of articles on sugars and how your body uses them and how your skin reacts to them. I have a friend who is vegan and although she is beautiful, she also always has breakouts. While I don't know if there is a direct connection in her, the logic makes sense. We we'll see.

I'm still trying to get on and stay on the wagon. Lots going on in my life right now causing a ridiculous amount of stress. I'm losing my job on September 30, going back to school for the first time in 10 years on August 23, my mom and sister are furious and not speaking to me over a trip to Florida with them that I decided I couldn't afford to take...I just can't seem to get enough stress in my life right now. Haha. I'm taking vacation next week, though, and hubby and I aren't telling any of our family. We're just going to have a relaxing week at home alone. I'm hoping to get my head together and get started back on Atkins perfectly on plan.

Isn't family just wonderful..My husband family did a similiar thing to us. We were supposed to take a day trip with them one day. Well, my father ended up in the hospital and very close to death. He was asking to see my kids. So, we stopped on the road, turned around and went to the hospital. When my husband got out of their vehicle and got the kids they turned to him and asked him "well, why can't YOU go". He told him that this was his family and this is where he needed to be. They are such insensitive asses sometimes.
I hope you enjoy your week hidden away. I have wanted to do that soo many times but inevitably my kids would slip up and tell! haha

illy-
Thanks for taking the time to write up your Dr's visit news! One of the biggest reasons I like this BB is people like you who share their learning...and then a bunch of others who talk about it and add to it.
Coincidentally today I made a line chart of my Excel stats, and it shows a consistent gradual loss (229 to 212) over the past couple months.
Yes momtomany1 exercise will help your good cholesterol ... thanks for the olive and avocado idea also, another reason - if having an occasional drink that will burn off that day - to have a martini with olives ... 0 carb and good for cholesterol!
Congrats again on your great Dr visit!

Thank you so much for sharing. This was so encouraging and inspirational. The first paragraph and science behind the ketostix really makes me happy. I'm on Day 8, my first and hopefully lifetime long Atkins, and the ketostix have been testing positive but sometimes I just get worried. It's great to know that my body IS doing the right thing no matter how much color my ketostix shows!

I think that's key - it's not how purple they are, just that they show the chemical reaction.

So far, this has been a WONDERFUL week! Only one call from work - I knew I couldn't go all week without someone calling to ask the status of something. I took my entrance exam for school yesterday and, shockingly, did GREAT! I'm thrilled. I sign up for classes Friday and start school on the 23rd. Ok, I just looked at the calender - the 23rd is a Saturday. Something is up with that.

So far, I'm not back perfectly on plan. I had hoped to be. But tomorrow, hubby will have to spend all day at his school with orientation and all that so my plan is to cook, cook, cook and freeze, freeze, freeze to get lots of meals together. My biggest downfall is not planning ahead and grabbing something bad because of time.

Today, we're installing a new kitchen floor and new cabinets. I can't tell you how wonderful it's going to be to finally have real cabinets and a real floor instead of makeshift tables and a plywood floor! Renovations stink sometimes!
