Talking Hi, I'm Misty. I am a returning carb addict!

Hello. My name is Misty. I am a married 27 yr old female currently sitting at or around 259 lbs. I have done atkins or things similar to atkins on and off for the last 4 years. I seem to always loose my way and end up falling back into bad habits. The funny thing is that I know this is the only woe for me, I just can't say no to the sweets! I honestly can't count the number of times on my fingers that I have "been doing atkins" but it's something that apparently in all those times I was still doing wrong.

I have never gotten to experience the sensation known as ketosis. Or at least, I think I haven't! I am a member of another well known low carb forum and have been since about 2005. I have enjoyed it, but in finding this page have discovered what it really means to be surrounded by others doing exactly what you are doing and keeping you accountable for it every step of the way. I learned that it's acceptable on the other page to combine a little of this plan with that plan or to make up your own for that matter. What I am glad to have found in you guys is a clear cut set of rules followed nearly to the T! Now, having said that, I do still appreciate the other forum for what it is. Having gone back and refreshed myself thoroughly on the ways of Atkins I have discovered that I have never given it an honest go. In my first time I was eating macadamia nuts and whatever amount of cheese I wanted on induction. I didn't measure out exact 2-3 cups of salad or other veggies. I just ate veggies that were lowcarb. But my biggest pitfall was that my snacks were comprised of pepperoni, cheese, nuts, and more pepperoni in mostly unmonitered amounts. I also drank diet coke, sugarfree coolaids, consumed sugarfree jello, whipcream, and other "sugarfree" items. All of which were aspartame sweetened. I also had those "planned cheat days" where, you know, it was ok, because it was only that one day and it was completely thought out. Admittedly I did loose weight, but I never lost the craving for sweets and starches and I never had that not hungry feeling. I seemed to feel famished almost all the time!

It is quite easy to sit and reflect and see where my faults were. But, will it be so easy for me to pick up and start over knowing my downfalls and not fall into their pit again? Well, that's why I am here.

I started today out with a regular ol' bowl of sugary cereal and banana. But decided halfway through the day that I am done! There is no "lets wait till tomorrow, or the weekend, or I have groceries" or whatever other excuse I can come up with. It's now or never. I had a lunch consisting of salad greens w/ tomatoe, cucumber, bell pepper, cheese, olives, and ranch dressing, a grilled chicken breast smothered in sauteed mushrooms and artichoke hearts, a 1/2 cup of green beans and a 1/2 cup of cooked broccoli. Yes, it was a big lunch, and yes, more vegetables than I needed in one meal. But it was the first concious step to making the right choices again. I left and went to the grocery store and picked up some chicken wings, ground pork, lamb roast, bacon, cheese, eggs, bagged salad, cucumber, onion, tomatoe, bok choy, asparagus, turnips, green beans, celery, avacado, olive oil, red wine vinegar, deli meats, and water. I am stocked and ready for at least 3 days now and can confidently pick up something to eat that will be on plan for a clean induction.

Tomorrow will be my first day of induction. I will weigh and measure myself. I am starting a food journal to keep track of all I eat. I am going for a strong start and any support along the way would be wonderful, as well as anyone else starting today or tomorrow.....hey we could be buddies!

Thanks for listening to my ramble.

Thanks so much for the welcome! I really appreciate it.

Other than breakfast yesterday I really had a great day as far as food choices. It's a little after 9:30 in the morning here. I have just weighed myself to find out that apparently I weighed less than I thought! I was 252.8 lbs after peeing before consuming anything. But, 2 days ago I weighed myself and it said 254.6 lbs. YAY! I took my measurements which I will be putting in my signature. And I made a vow to only weigh myself once a month so that I dont become obsessed with the scale!

My hubby is frying up some eggs in olive oil and bacon (no sugar, low sodium) right now so I am off for my breakfast!

Default Re: Hi, I'm Misty. I am a returning carb addict!

So, this morning I have entered into fitday my total food I plan to consume today. I planned it out last night so that I would be ready today. My menu looks like this:

Breakfast:
3 eggs fried in olive oil
3 strips plumrose sugarfree low sodium bacon

Lunch:
1/4 lb Hamburger patty
1 cup salad greens w/ tomatoe, cucumber, olives, onion
1 oz cheese
1 boiled egg
olive oil/red wine vinegar dressing

Snack:
Tuna salad made w/ 2 tbls mayo, 1 tbls mt olive sugarfree pickle relish
2 (5 inch) celery sticks

Dinner:
2 chicken thighs fried in olive oil
1/2 cup mashed garlic turnips (recipe from board)
1 cup salad made same as above
1 oz cheese
1 boiled egg
oil/vinegar dressing

My totals in fitday say: 2362 cals, Fat: 68% Prot: 28% Carb: 4%

I realize my ratios aren't quite where they should be and I suppose I should take fat out of somewhere but I am not really sure where! Any suggestions?

By the way, yesterday I walked a mile. May not seem like much to most but being that I haven't gotten out and done anything in several years....it was a feat for me! My calves were aching so bad just a quarter into it! I plan to walk a mile again tonight.

My water consumption yesterday was 70 fl oz. I am going to try to increase that today!

Thanks for all the responses! I am off and rolling on an excellent start so far! I have vowed myself to only weigh and measure myself once a month. The one exception to this being at the end of a clean 14 day induction. So, I am fighting the scale temptation! Yesterday I drank 91 fl oz of plain water and 44 oz unsweetened ice tea. No sweets for me! YAY! I also walked up and down a flight of stairs about 12 times, but did not walk my mile. I have been having pretty frequent bad headaches so aleve has been my friend.

So, here's to one more day down! One day at a time.

It's nice that you decided to do the Atkins plan the way it was written and not the way some want it to be written. I have a friend who her and her husband are on the "sort of - kinda like" Atkins where they only eat lettuce salads and protein 3 times a day Monday through Friday - Saturday and Sunday they eat anything they want in unlimited quantities. Last year when her husband was a delivery driver (loading and unloading trucks all day) he lost 70 pounds doing this....he's been laid off for 4 months and his big exercise now is opening beer cans and walking back and forth to the fridge for more. He feels he can loose 70 pounds again and she thinks she can loose 40 - 50 by the end of summer eating this way. I just wished them both good luck and decided I like this way much better. I don't want to sabbotage what I work so hard for by undoing all my good work on weekends. Hope it works for them but I have my doubts!

Glad to hear you are off to a good start. Planning is the key -- keep making up your meal plans the night before so you know what you'll be eating the next da. Make up a couple of the recipes in advance so you have something in the freezer for those days you just don't feel like cooking. My favorite thing to have is Linda's stuffed green peppers -- it's such a flavorful meal with a salad and so filling.

Good luck to you! Keep doing Atkins THE RIGHT WAY!!!!

So, I don't know if its the ketosis setting in or what but for the first time I can remember I am NOT hungry! I had 3 eggs, scrambled w/ 1oz pepper jack cheese and 3 slices plumrose bacon for breakfast. I had one whole can of tuna mixed w/ 2 tbls mayo and 1 tbls relish for lunch. I have had roughly 40 oz of water today. And that's it. For the whole day so far. And I feel like I am ready to explode! I am sort of nauseaus feeling and thinking about getting up and preparing dinner is making my stomach turn! UGH!

This is what it is like. Isn't it! I mean, its a good thing. I am not obsessing over the fact that I can't eat starchy stuff. That's what I want. I am just a little amazed it would happen so soon. This is technically my second day in, but in reality I completed 3/4 of Friday as induction so it can be counted as third day in. I dunno!

WOW!

Edited to include: I also had 1/4 of an avacado with my breakfast!
