    and i actually remembered to give jack his this morning. it's really kinda hard to forget them now. i get on the board and i see our little mascot guy telling me it's time for my vitamins. he's a good pest.

      FYI: next Monday's topic will be the start of the Vitamin B series. It will be divided into three parts. Each subsequent part will have a link to the previous thread(s) in case it gets lost among the other threads. I hope you'll enjoy it. There's a lot of information to share, so that's why it's broken up.

            Hey all! I just read through the thread, and I'd like to join, if possible. I'm not very good about remembering my vitamins/supplements and I think this would be a good way to keep myself on track. I do have a couple questions.

            1) When is the best time of day to take them? Or is it just important to pick a time of day that you will remember to do so?

            2) Why do you take echinacea on an empty stomach? Are there certain vits/sups we're supposed to take on an empty stomach, or some with food?

            3) If I forget to take them in the morning, should I take them at night? Do I take them again the next morning, or is this too much in a short period of time?

            4) Am I taking too much? Granted, I haven't remembered to take them everyday, but this is what I take on a regular basis:

            B-Complex vitamin
            Vitamin E
            Flax Oil
            Zinc
            Vitamin C
            Women's 50+ Multivitamin
            Evening Primrose (before and during TOM)

            Here is the info on the Multivitamin:


            Should I be ditching the Vitamin E? I read earlier that too much is dangerous. What about the B-Complex and zinc?

              Welcome aboard, Julie!!!

              To answer your questions...

              1) Some vitamins you take 2-3 times a day, so you space them apart. Other vitamins can make you sleepy, so night is best. With most vitamins, however, it doesn't matter when you take them as along as you're consistent.

              2) Some makers of echinacea say to take it on an empty stomach so that most of it will be absorbed properly. Others say to take it with food. You can try it one way & then the next to see which works best for you. With some vitamins, you definately want to take with food b/c it can cause an upset stomach. Other vitamins, you have to be careful of what other vitamins/minerals/food you take with it b/c it'll either increase the effects or decrease it. It can get confusing fast!

              3) If you miss a dose, you can certainly take them at night and then again the following morning. It won't hurt you.

              4) No, you're not taking too much. You should see my list! LOL

              5) You have vitamin E in your multi and your taking a separate supplement. What's the dosage on the separate E that you're taking? As long as you're not taking it several times a day, you're probably ok with what you're taking on E. Ditto for Vitamin B and probably zinc. Again, you have zinc in your multi and taking a separate supplement for it. What's the dosage on the zinc?

                      Hi guys! I'm taking my vitamins as we speak! Here's the info on the extra supplements:

                      Vitamin B-complex, I take it once a day:
                      amount per serving % daily value
                      Thiamin 50mg 3333%
                      Riboflavin 50mg 2941%
                      Niacin 50mg 250%
                      Vitamin B6 50mg 2500%
                      Folate 400 mcg 100%
                      Vitamin B12 50 mcg 833%
                      Biotin 50 mcg 17%
                      Pantothenic Acid 50mg 500%

                      The Zinc caplet is 50mg. I take it once a day.

                      The Flax Oil is a 1200mg capsule I take once a day.

                      Vitamin E is 400 I.U. and I take once daily.

                      Vitamin C is 500mg and I take that once daily, or twice a day if I have a cold/flu.

                      I'll also take cranberry if I have a bladder infection or am feeling a "twinge"...I LOVE cranberry! It's a lifesaver!

                      Are there any that I should take more than once a day? Basically...what I can I do to tweak or improve my vitamins and supplements? Are there any that you recommend that I'm not currently taking?

                            Julie, everything looks just fine. One of the reasons why the biotin is a low percentage on your B-complex is that it's expensive to produce. You may wish to buy a separate supplement for that, but you can decide after reading my Vitamin B thread starting next week. I think biotin will be in the second installment.

                            How's your calcium intake? As a woman, it's important an important supplement. If you wish, you can also increase your flax supplement to 2x/day (morning and night).

                            As far as any other supplement, it really depends on if you're trying to prevent an illness from happening, trying to treat one, or just looking to improve overall health.
