Re: What is the scariest situation you have ever been in?
Scariest how?
Two of them pop into mind.
When Sammy-Jammy got sick and they couldn't figure out what was wrong with her. We ended up living in the hospital for over 2 years while they tried to figure it out and get her healthy enough to come home.
The other was when Corky died. Scared to death because for the first time I was truly on my own in raising the girls, up against seemingly insurmountable financial odds, and in for a major fight.
I've made it through both situations and am stronger for them.
Now if you mean fright?
The night I woke up to what sounded like a full grown man wailing and crying in my house. I was terrified and the worst part was that the noise was between me and my kids' room. I grabbed the loaded 9MM, rounded the corner - heart thumping, adrenaline running....and found the dog laying on his back in the hallway making the weirdest, most horrific noise. Oyyy. I was so relieved, I fell apart. Corky was working that night and I called him to tell him what happened. He thought I was a nutjob. Made fun of me......until about 3 months later the kids and I were out of town and the dog did it to him in the middle of the night.
He called me and apologized his
off. It scared him just as bad.
Honest to goodness, it sounded like a grown man crying and wailing. W.I.E.R.D.

Re: What is the scariest situation you have ever been in?
That had to be when my husband passed away and there I was alone, living in a small town in NH...1600 ft up the side of Cherry Mountain, no neighbours (all seasonal residents except us). It was overwhelmingly scary overall because of his passing and the fact that I never felt so alone (in every way) in my life.

I was in a drug bust one time. Apparently the guys house we were at (3 guys rented together, 1 of them was a dealer) We were sittin around playing monpoly when the door busted open and cops with guns came in! WE didn't have any drugs or anything but they ransacked the guys room and car and got ALOT of weed. I was SO SCARED....you know, guilty by association type thing, but they just made us write statements and let us go.30/F/5'6"

Re: What is the scariest situation you have ever been in?
In 1981, I was working at a high school in the mountains as an Assistant Custodian. The midnight person worked at the school alone. The other custodians came in at 7 am. It was mandatory to do an outside 'grounds check' at 2am. Walk around the building, check the doors, windows and make sure nobody had broken it. This never bothered me. It was out in the middle of no-where and peaceful and quiet. I enjoyed the nightly stroll around the building. ONE night, I went out the door and the strongest fear struck. I didn't see anyone or hear anyone. I immediately went back inside the building. It was mandatory to do this check or you could be fired. Nothing could get me outside that door. I looked out all the windows and didn't see anything, tried to talk myself into stop being silly and go do my job. But I couldn't.
The next morning, my boss ran in and was so excited to see me. As he was getting ready for work...the news said a lady was killed by a mountain lion right across the street from the school. It was a woman who lived about a mile from the school who was a baker and was up at 4am to go to work. It got her when she went to her car.
I know at 2am, that lion was out there looking and waiting for someone. I didn't see him, but I know that was the most fear I've ever felt. Thank goodness for intuition.Starting Date 3/12/04 285/165/145 - F

Re: What is the scariest situation you have ever been in?
Becky that's absolutely terrifying!
Mine was when I was trapped in a burning building with no way out. My neighbour (a nutter) started the fire. He was naked and shivering on his adjoining balcony as flames came from a window near him, licking the gas cylinder! Try as I might, I couldn't get him to climb over to my side.
I couldn't get out of the door on the landing as it was locked and there was too much black black smoke.
I looked over the balcony and to my horror found the street (a verrrrrrry narrow Roman alley) chok a block full of people, firemen and soldiers. These last were holding one of those net things you have to jump into because the street was too narrow for the fire engine (with ladders) to get near to. Trouble was, there was a row of parked cars under the building, so to jump into the net thing, I'd have had to jump way out over and beyond the cars. The flat was like five flights up.
The thrill seeking crowd kept shouting "Jump Signorina, jump!", but the soldiers holding the net were yelling "No! For heaven's sake don't jump... yet!". In the end, they managed to get up the main stairwell and burst in with hoses. Flooded the flat, and our brand new parquet floor was ruined...but I'm here to tell the tale!. Flat next door was gutted. The nutter went back to the nut house. He died a few years later... in a fire. Before and after:
